Santa Barbara Grand Jury recommends checking immigration status in school etc simply to get better data?
"The 2006-07 Civil Grand Jury issued a far-ranging report on the effects of illegal immigration in Santa Barbara. The report states that credible estimates of the number of illegal immigrants in the county range from 25,000 to 75,000. The jury recommended that medical and educational service providers, who cannot turn people away, should check clients' immigration status simply for the sake of obtaining better data. The grand jurors suggested that the county human resources department test Homeland Security's Systematic Alien Verification and Entitlements (SAVE) program."
Answer:
Yes it does seem logical and fair, we should know how we are affected BUT another city tried to do a study in 2006 and 3 Hispanic organizations put the slap down on the city and flooded them with lawsuits over privacy. For some reason no one wants us to know the true impact from illegal immigration. The other city wanted to study the rising cost of education but the school system got slapped with so many injunctions they had to drop everything.
Wonder how long it will take this one to derail??
It'll never happen..the Activists will see to that..it's already been tried and lost in court.
Great idea. But it will never go.
Why?
"This is a violation of their privacy!" I can hear the pro illegals now. They will be screaming about violation of rights, and it is unfair, and it will drive away people from seeking medical attention and/or an education.
I personally think that it should be done anyways. It is important to our NATIONAL SECURITY to know who is here illegally and where they are at. But this also will piss off the pro illegal set.
Like I care. . .
Sounds like a good idea.
But the pro illegals will immediately start b*tching and moaning about privacy rights, racism, this and that.
But hey, who knows what will happen...
Hi DAR,you know this whole immigration thing is weird. It's so hard to answer questions on it because each state varies so much.Like in Wisconsin where I live our governor already made laws that many people who are anti illegal are saying should be laws.Take our schools to answer your question. We already do that. They aren't denied education but they are denied free breakfasts and lunches. They also can't get an interpreter or books in Spanish that I hear others on here talking about. Not to mention our Welfare Laws are some of the strictest in the Nation. So I think a lot of the mis-understandings many of us have on this forum are due to our own states and how they handle things.Maybe all the states should adopt the same laws first and then move this immigration debate to a national level.I don't see how we will ever come to a compromise on this issue if all the states themselves have different rules. It just confuses and riles up those of us who try to present any type of argument either pro or anti. It's dividing our nation because like me I get riled when I hear people say things about schools and by me it's not true.Anyway that's what I think.
Of course, it's logical.
The impact on American taxpayers could be better known with accurate numbers. The grand jurors were correct in suggesting the test of SAVE. This data could be vital to Homeland Security.
That said, the illegal aliens and their misguided supporters will begin to rant and rave about racial profiling, invasion of privacy.
My response to that is...illegal aliens are not a race, they are a composite of a variey of nationalities. Neither are protected by our privacy laws, they forfeited any chance of those rights by violating our borders.
It depends on what the benefit of the data mining is. I don't like the idea of DHS mining info in our school and hospitals. They are all up in everybody's business enough already. I'm not exactly seeing what the benefit is to the schools and hospitals to perform an immigration status check on everyone. I can understand DHS's interest in it, but not the schools.
