How difficult is it for british people to move to the states permenantly?
Answer:
You need to find an employer in the US that needs your skills and is willing to help you with the process, they then can apply for an immigrant worker visa, you will more than likely have to visit the American embassy in London to prove your credentials and will be interviewed.
The employer essentially has to prove that they cannot easily find your skills in the US, there used to be a loop hole whereby you could come to the US on a long stay visa, and if you just so happened to bump into someone who was willing to employ you, then your status could be changed and the process could be started while you were there, but all that has now changed.
I'm not sure which workers/skills have preference, if you are a nurse or have skills in health care then you have a very good chance, but start looking for jobs in your area of expertise, as I said it is the employer who has to be willing to help you and it is they who have start the process of getting you over here.
So if you have got what they need, then you can do it.
Good luck!
Go to Mexico, then just sneak through with the rest of them, and voila! you are an American Citizen.
The US isn't accepting work green card applications until October 2007. And since they aren't accepting those, I'm sure they won't be accepting any others right now. You have to have some kind of support to stay here legally.
It isn't easy, because there are a lot of people wanting to come, but people do it all the time. Go to uscis.gov for the options.
