Does anybody feel the same way?...?

I think that in order to be a us citizen, you should HAVE to learn English! The reason why I think this is because recently I Graduated from Medical assisting school, and every F-in time I have an interview, there last question to me is..."Do you peak Spanish?" And since i say no, because I can't, I never get a call back, coincident, or discrimination? you choose! I never cared about immigration issues before, but, now I see how it effects our country and jobs for us citizens. It's like...Why should we have to learn Spanish for them to be accommodated for, when they come here English learning classes are free for them, and Spanish lessons cost at least $100.00 per lesson! And further more, none of us go to Mexico and try to force them to learn English for us!

am I just angry because I'm having a hard time find work, or what? I just feel like its not an issue, or is it?

P.s, I'm not racist to anyone, and to prove this, both my parents are Green card carriers, who speak English

Answer:
Well Said! Thank you
I learned Spanish, and I am an American citizen. I am not even hispanic. If I can learn Spanish I would think they could learn English considering they are in this country.
i agree with you 100 percent. although speaking a foriegn language is handy it shouldn't be a nessessity.
yes I do. We should respect and tolerate differences, but a multicultural society will fail in the long term. Also, there is nothing to be ashamed of for the majority wanting to keep their culture/language.
when in America, do as the Americans do.
You're right. Anyone coming to the US to work, live etc should know how to speak English. US citizens should not be required to learn another countries language. If we go to their country we would have to learn their language.
Illegals are costing the US in various ways and you just found out one of them.
Sorry you have had problems finding a job.But the reality is, you better learn Spanish and adapt or you will remain without a job.I live in a community with 80% Hispanic.I, of course, speak Spanish. But there were some who did not...But they were hired anyways.Don't ask me why, but they were.Others had to learn Spanish to live in this community.I understand your frustration, but changes are coming and either you adapt or move to a community with little Latinos...Businesses have to consider there customers and provide people who can speak the language...Now anywhere in the world you live you almost have to be bilingual...

Wow, why don't you have your parents teach you Spanish? I grew up in an all white schools...I lost my Spanish too, I started forcing myself to speak only Spanish to my parents and I finally learned it, where I could carry a conversation.I am happy to know both languages. Its always helpful to know 2 languages.I am still learning Spanish.
it's discrimination. call a lawyer. some one has to do something to change things. my 14 year old wants to be a Dr. i hope they don't ask her if she can speak spanish. if they do, that's when I'm going to talk her into suing the crap out of them.
No, I do not feel the same way, I work for a three surgeon and one nurse practitioner office, we have four medical assistants and only one speaks Spanish. I also live in a border state and we have maybe five percent Spanish speaking patients. Out of those less than one percent are not bilingual but a lot of them are more comfortable speaking Spanish when discussing medical issues, those that cannot speak English are asked to bring interpreters. If you are applying at a one doctor office with a small staff that has a large Spanish patient base then I am sure they would want someone bilingual but in large offices it doesn't matter. Perhaps it is something as simple as that you just got out of school, most specialists like I work for want at least one year of experience in the field you are applying for. You are looking for something or someone to blame instead of having a positive attitude and maybe it shows.

Edit: Employers have the right to decide whom they want to hire, if they prefer Spanish speaking that is their right, nobody is forcing anyone to learn Spanish.
It's called reverse discrimination. And you should be p*ssed about it. Contact your local senators, and congressmen, or women. Tell them your situation since they like to claim that it's a job an American doesn't want to do. Besides the resolve at the hospital where one of my brothers works, they have set aside a place for non-English speaking people, and a place for English speaking people. Because before they did that - the non-English speaking people were catered to first. Even if they came in behind others in the ER
Some one ask why a change in demographics is bad. YOu have explained part of the reason why. I think the main problem is its a one sided change in our population. Previous immigration group had other ethnic groups to balance things off. THe hispanic population has become such a force that it is destroying small busines, because it can't cope with the change of demographics. African American small business is hit the hardest. Its partly because its hard to hire extra employees in a mom and pop establishment, but its a cultural difference too. Hispanics frankly will most likely go to a Hispanic business. It's horrible that you have to tell people your not a racist when you haven't said anything racist. TO be honest, its difficult to get a Medical assistant job with out experience.

edit:
I do agree that Spanish should be taught free if it's becoming a requirement.
i think so
Why should an American have to learn another countries language?...in order to work.that is BS
any immigrant who wants to come and live in the USA, should learn english. (among other things) It should be required. if I decided to go and live in another country, they are not going to accommodate me by learning my language to help me deal. as Americans we have been challenged to cater to immigrants needs, because we are a nice country. we then become Saps. we are also the most hated country in the world.then why do we constantly try to accomodate immigrants? hmmm..i guess i have questions of my own - huh
I wish you did speak Spanish so you could explain to all the Illegal Immigrants why so many American Citizens do not want them here. They reap all the Benefits off Our Health Care System and Welfare, and do not even pay Taxes to support it. And Yes if they are gonna Stay here, learn English!
I know you are not racist but it would more easy
for eveyone if in this country people stop to discriminate
everything they don't like
America is a great nation but is ruin from
to much racism and dicrimination and for that reason
many immigrants refuse to assimilate the American culture
with the logic consequence they also refuse to learn the language if you want is like a self defense or the fear to lose
their own culture beside many immigrants legal or illegal
don't really like to live in this country but they do just because
the job or because is a good country where send the kids to school they sacrifice their happiness in order to guarantee
a better future for the children, is very sad way to live your life
but many of them they are here even they don't like very much to be here...
Welcome to the other side of the coin. Imagine how non English speaking Hispanics
felt when the coin only land on its head(tail showing!) You'll be OK even though you may have started late depending on your age. Oh one other thing. These days it's easier to learn just about any language you need to learn. Because on technology,Internet, and demand!

GOOD LUCK!
