Noone believes that the government will stop the illegal flow after they grant rights to illegals. We want the law enforced and THEN we'll talk.
Immigration (even legal) has gotten out of control. We are WAY WAY WAY above the levels we historically allowed during our nation's history.
America is now a welfare state. You can't have a welfare state with open borders. You will simply go bankrupt. This is already happening by the way.
Combine this with outsourcing, offshoring, H1B skilled workers, H1A guest workers, illegal "slave labor", dying industries and towns from naive globalism and bad trade policy, consolidation of industries due to merger and acquistions, and you will see why voting Americans have had enough. Our wages have been flat for years while housing, education, taxes, healthcare, food, and energy costs have gone thru the roof. Our birthrates are down in part because people CANNOT raise families anymore.
We cannot absorb the worlds poor. Something like 95% of the world's population is poorer than Mexico.
Our government has told us for YEARS that high school dropouts cost the country way more money than they bring into the country.
It's our country. We want it to resemble the country we knew in our youth. We don't mind immigrants but every time I go to the store, I am the only native-English speaking person around. I feel like I am traveling in Mexico or the U.N building. This is too much.
Lastly, homeland security concerns after 9/11.

well, if you don't mind paying for your corn like you pay for gasoline, it's a good idea. immigrants (yes, even illegal ones) workers keep costs down b/c farmers rape them when it comes to salary
The H1B visa is an area that many Americans overlook. If the immigration bill passes we will add a huge amount of H1B visa's to import HIGH skilled labor professionals. We need to not only guard our low skilled workers but watch out for our high skilled tech jobs.
I am afraid that Americans are missing very important parts of this bill, it has taken me a long time to finally read it because work has gotten so busy but the more I read the more disgusted I get. Yes I understand that we must recruit skilled labor from other countries to fill a lack of American interest (for now) but we have record numbers of students enrolled in math and science field courses of study and it continues to grow annually. We should be raising our own scientists, engineers, doctors, etc. instead of importing them at the taxpayers expense.
I understand that we need the H1B visa to fulfill the needs in certain sectors but the amount that this bill will add is ridiculous and looks like you are completely excluding Americans in certain job fields.
The farmers are already using machines to help in their work. While for almost every farming task, a machine can be designed and built, economics might prevent.
You and I neither one want the work they are doing anyways.
It's hard work with little pay. But if you really think it's hurting, just go out there and take one of their places. Within a few minuets you will gladly go find the fellow you had replaced and let him have his job back.
You try building a robot. You're obviously not educated enough to land a good job, so you have to blame it on the "Mexicans", yet you want someone to spend a lot of money and time to build a very expensive robot to do things a human can do? Get an education, get a good job, and stop whining like a baby.
H1B visa are for highly skilled worked workers like, doctors, engineers etc. Majority of H1B visa workers are recruited by companies or organizations to do work that they are highly specialized in.
