Answer:
Currently the fee is $400. $330 application fee + $70 fingerprinting fee. USCIS was supposed to announce the increase on May 10, but postponed it. The proposed increase was substantial. Base fee $595 + $80 fingerprinting fee. It's not clear if the proposed increase will be in the final rule, or if it will be something else.
Millions have paid with their lives to guarantee the freedoms we enjoy today. No cost is too high in my opinion.

How to solve illegal immigration...
Everybody says deport them. I say why waste the gas money? You get rid of them through economics.
1. Severely punish employers who practice the hiring of illegal immigrants. A second offense should require mandatory 5 year prison sentences, and a loss of their business license. Make it a hazard to employers to hire illegals.
2. fine landlords monthly for housing illegal immigrants.
3. Cut Illegals off from any and all government benefits.
4. Have Illegal immigrant's house and land property siezed by the government.
If we do these things, it'll be nearly impossible for an illegal immigrant to live in the United States. They'll deport themselves.
I don't know what it costs, but it should be substantial. approx. 100,000 dollars.
The cost depends on what your country of origin is, dual citizenship. U.S. policy was changed to no dual citizenship but there is a way around that, my best friend has had dual citizenship for many years.
The paperwork is about 100 U.S. Dollars and another 300-400 for INS fees and takes 1-2 years, unless you have been here and paying taxes for many years, then it's quick.
If you are brand new to the country, there are man many new rules, most hidden intentioinally.
This is due to the funds provided by the U.S. govt for other countries and their citizens.
Our govt. is currently under scrutiny for abusing it's funds and how they are spent outward(war) and not providing for it's own naturalized citizens after immigration and foreign affairs.
Apply anyway,you get deported BIG TIME after your visa expires, for cutting into the govt's profits(paying taxes) and you get a one-way ticket to the country you were born in or are a citizen, NOT where you may have lived.
Where they drop you off in that country is up to them too, kruddy, huh?
Don't stop the process once you start, they track you, and when they are called to action, someone takes the fall, even if it is years and years later.
Honestly, Ive worked my butt off and don't get squat except a yearly bill (taxes) and pay left and right tax on stuff, and our govt helps immigrants first and suckers it's citizens for the money.
This country isn't perfect, and wasn't built over night, my though is if there is something you don't like about your country, figure out a way to fix it, build buisness, try. Mooching and using just makes you a user and a looser if you want a ticket out, and for every immigrant in thats one american out. That's like an American giving you a credit card and cant cancell it and gets stuck with the bill, NOT FAIR if you ask me.
My friends bring their own buisness and contributions.
We give first, before we can take. Takeing up front is like stealing what you didn't earn. Like being used, stolen from, neglected, abandoned? Sounds like rape? Thats how americans feel about immigration, and the money that immigrants get after that.
