I don't see why the government doesn't just enforce the laws we have now. If they do that, then maybe the citizens would be more believing of them when they try to overhaul the immigration laws and say they are going to enforce the borders, etc. I don't see the bill dying today as a "defeat" meaning that things just stay the way they are with nothing being done to rid the country of illegal immigrants. Like captain and clone say, just enforce the laws we already have consistently and steadily and over time they will leave on their own and stop coming. If NO ONE hires them and they cannot get ANY social benefits, free education, medical care or housing and stop the "anchor baby" magnet, they will have no choice but to leave and they will do that on their OWN dime!

Enforce our labor laws. Its that simple. Self deportation.
Mexico will be easy, its the ones that require plane and ship tickets that will get costly. But oh well, its cheaper than supporting them on a yearly basis. It cost us 80 billion a year to support them, that comes out to roughly $6100 savings for everyone we get rid of. Lots of bus, plane, and ship tickets for that kind of money each.
Simple. Go after the people that hire them. ICE should be knocking on every business and ask to see the documents of every employee. I'm so tired of them picking and choosing. Also, pass nation wide laws making it illegal to rent or sell homes to illegal aliens. Take away their jobs and their residences and they will leave on their own.
Simple, but heartless - eliminate the protection of law for illegal immigrants. They'd get out of Dodge by sundown, I tell you what!

because they are here illegally, any money they make in our country is made illegally...they are not authorised to work here or to take our money..so..anything they have is subject to seizure.what ever they have aquired in our country is stolen property....what they aquired by illegal means is property of the government...just like any criminal loses his illegally aquired loot...
there will be plenty of money to ship these people out....seize their illegally aquired stuff.auction it off ....problem solved......
I do not ,see a victory here, The results are business as usual,
that was a battle in a long war. now the country is back to square one. where it started. Remember when Bush said "missiom Acomplished " in Irag ,Your agenda has not been fullfiled. I think that the next election in 2008, Will be an indicator where our country is going. .In terms of who may prevail on many issues that face the USA in the future.
