It's hard to administer people this way. I talked it over with some people here, and the problem is what liberals consider decent people. In the last bill, they wanted to accept felons with the Z-visa. If we can convince the liberals to judge people on a one on one base, with reasonable criteria, It would be very expensive to check their background. Creating a criteria is also a problem. We have varying philosophy on what's a good person. I appreciate that you understand drugs are a serious offense, but not all Americans feel that way. I would not tolerate children who ever vandalize other peoples property and kick out the entire family for such an offense, but others would look at that differently. Even if we can get together and find some common ground, we have a problem with screening. The screeners, would vary in the interpretation of our criteria, and it would leave room for corruption. I recently learn when we accepted Vietnamese refugees, thet there was a considerable amount of bribes to let some of them in. Because of difference of opinion between the Liberals and conservatives, the issue of illegal immigration is all or none. It is unfortunate that the situation has come to this. I do believe those who come here should be punished, but I also realize it's easier to check the illegal immigrants moral background when they have living here as well. Illegal immigration is only a moderate crime that should be wieghed with the circumstance they came in for, but the problem is one crime attracts other far more serious ones.
I am not adverse to an immigration bill that would allow SOME illegal immigrants to stay, but It needs to be couple with some assurance that no more illegal immigrants will come. It's hard to do if we accept any illegal immigrants, because it shows weekness on the issue. I would also wish that this bill would ensure all immigrants are self sufficient and that we make a statement that we are tough on crime.

The problem is not all illegals are "good" like you. How can we know? There is no way. Besides, we have immigration quotas for a reason. Now there is a burden due to the MILLIONS of illegals here.
did you sneak over or apply to come here legally?..if the 1st answer applies forget it...you need to be sent back,apply and then your attributes that you listed will be taken into consideration..
I can't tell if this is a bogus question or not. But once you start giving out green cards to illegals than they all want one. It's not fair to give to one and impossible to give to all. Sorry, go home and enter legally and the green card could be yours.

You could be the equivalent to Albert Einstein, these people WOULD never accept you, too much hate...And they wonder why immigrants in this country don't want to assimilate.
That's all well and good but you cannot have a clean record you just have not been caught with being in the country illegally . So you would be in effect be saying that we should offer you oversight and special laws to accommodate you ?
If you are working you have to have fake documents to do that.. I fail to see you are looking at the big pic,cause all is not well and good.

midcentury,your statement is ridiculous and i'm about to shoot it down. I am very against illegal immigration but legal immigration is another matter. I have relatives who legally immigrated. My little boy has type 1 diabetes and I put his life in the hands of an immigrant doctor. I choose her over the American born doctor she shares a practice with. Just because someone is anti illegal it doesn't make them anti immigrant so quit spouting bogus nonsense.
Go home and do it the right way then you will be welcome.
