I actually agree with him. There are plenty of rapists, murderers, and other violent felons that have escaped capture in this country. Why should we spend all this time, money, resources, and energy on illegal aliens, when these violent felons are not caught yet? I think it is impractical to find and capture 12 million people in a country of our size.

Bush has made a career out of misrepresenting opponents' positions on a very wide range of issues. Such misrepresentation is common with many politicians, but Bush seems to go over the top with it. It works because few in the press bother to question the accuracy of things he says, perhaps partially because the public never reacted to the way Bush mangles the English language. And, as Teddy Roosevelt observed, the White House is a bully pulpit.
You really have no idea how many of the infastructure jobs are being done by illegals, there would be a lot of damage done with a mass exportation.

How many million people are you talking about? Do the math; you are out of your mind to think we could make that work. It could be accomplished with nothing short of a police state, our economy would get derailed, and the streets would be rampant with violence and hatred for the government.

Well believe it you saw it in print! It would be a huge job but it could be done. So many people here are sorry for the illegals and want them to have a new start, I say ok but not at the expense of the American people and their children's future and educations. Why does this seem unfair? And what about all of those people that are trying to do it the right way, the legal way. Screw them because they wouldn't break the law to get what they want? Wake up America. These people will be someone's next door neighbor!
The practical thing is to make them want to leave, go arrest the law breakers who hire them, if there is no jobs they will leave.
Look folks, here is the real issue! Immigrants work in construction, fast food, farms, domestics, etc. etc. etc. If all of these were rounded up and deported it would strain our economy and make many big stock holders very upset! So its really a money game as always. Nothing more and nothing less!
Do you understand the enormity of the task of finding, detaining, trying and deporting some 12,000,000 people?
It would require a mobilization of the same size we had in WW2.

A good leader would encourage people to do the right thing. For example, I know someone in management who is probably considered upper working class. They just bought a house. All their money goes to the house payment. Their neighbors probably either bought their houses when it was less expensive to buy, had dual incomes, or are already past this stage in their lives. Most are older. They are nice houses and it's a nice suburban neighborhood. The neighbors have pool boys, gardeners and housekeepers. From what I can see, all or most of these service providers are foreign. Perhaps, one would argue, if they hunted down a licensed American company it would be more time consuming and might cost more money. But you have to look into why. These places lost business with the hiring of illegals, etc. and had to increase their prices. It's a vicious circle. So if more people hired Americans for the stuff they just couldn't get to and did the rest of the work themselves (like the people I know did) then more Americans would be working and this is actually what's good for the economy. Hiring illegals or a mix of legal and illegal immigrants drives a wedge and is not good for the economy. It ruins the job market. It's wrong to go to a nice neighborhood like that and see all the foreigners employed and the underemployed Americans wandering around passing out fliers looking for jobs. You'd be surprised at how many service providing Americans have been displaced and now have to rely on their families, etc. and can't afford to improve their circumstances. And many are in the exact same financial situation as the illegals were before they took on so many jobs. They'd be more than willing to work for cash and keep the costs down. But they don't get hired.
If Bush was a good leader he would be telling the public what I just said and encourage them to hire Americans and when they can't afford to, to do their own work. He should be the leader of the American service provider AND the upwardly mobile AND the rich. Not just the rich and the immigrant.
I can't believe ANYONE buys into ANYTHING Bush has to say!
