They are to busy blaming Bush to even come up with suggestion.
Besides elections are coming up, they need to get more benefits such as health care and education for the illegal immigrants. The more benefits they can get illegals the less money is available for legal citizens. The more the budget becomes unbalanced. The more they can blame on republicans. etc, etc etc
Hopefully congress will take the issue of comprehensive immigration reform soon.
BTW the term 'Illegal immigration" is incorrect. In our system of law, only what has been explicitly forbidden by law is illegal, everything else is perfectly legal.
There is no law that explicitly forbids entry into the United States, there are a myriad of laws that REGULATE the entry into this country, so the correct way to refer to people that failed to follow established legal procedure for entry is UNDOCUMENTED, since in order for somebody to become 'illegal' there would have to be a law that they have actively broken. That is not the case, by being in the US without having followed the proper legal procedure for entry they are UNDOCUMENTED not illegal. lol
That said, yes and no. Yes because we are a capitalist nation, were supply and demand rules the land, if there is greater supply than demand then the situation will regularize itself, these people will not find jobs and return home. No, because we have laws and procedures that should be followed for that supply to be met

Unfortunately neither the Democrats nor the Republicans seem to want to be the one to step up and do what is right. I would say that it is more than likely going to be a Republican when the day finally arrives, but it will probably not be for a long time.
I don't see the Democrats providing any clear and workable solutions.
The best solution would be to work on improving the situation in Mexico (and the rest of the world for that matter).
No because they get all the illegal votes. Minority's and illegal aliens are the gifts that keep on giving to dems.
Neither party will put focus on stopping illegal immigration because it is a benefit to the major corporations. They want the cheap labor, they want us to have to compete with illegals for jobs so that we will work cheap, and they provide the funding to elect politicians. So, as I said, neither party will stop it.
Oh, yes. They are opposed to it, since they solicit illegal alien voters.
Who knows? It seems like they all have put it on the backburner because they won't agree on anything.
Nothing to truly solve the issue will get done anytime soon. It is easy to explain why. Democrats will not touch the issue in depth because they have a voter base within the Hispanic population. Republicans will not agree either because they have a voter base within the business people who hire "undocumented" immigrants.
Now, what needs to be done. grant amnesty to any undocumented immigrants who have otherwise obeyed the laws of the land. Deport any immigrants who have broken the laws. Streamline immigration procedures to make it easier for people to legally enter the country. Make it easier for employers to verify social security numbers and immigrant status. Lastly, go after businesses that knowingly hire undocumented workers.
Better yet. Let's get it over with an buy Mexico.

i think we should just help out the countries that need help. that way the people who live there will want to stay because they will have good playing jobs with which to support their familes.

The republicans had control of the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the Presidency.... for six years and they did nothing about immigration. The democrats won't do anything either. Why? Big business wants cheap illegals working here. Even a small percentage of illegals in the workforce lowers wages and benefits for all workers, and that leaves truckloads of money for CEOs. They use some of that money to buy our legislators who talk tough about the issue without doing the one thing that could control it: Force employers to actually do a real background check for legal work status of their employees. Don't worry if you are an employer, nothing is going to change until America is a third world country.
