British passport holder married to South African emigrating to Spain?

I am British born and married to a South African. Can my husband piggy back on my passport as we are emigrating to Spain.

Answer:
Hi there, I am a South African living in Spain with my wife who is Italian. The same rules apply here as if you were moving with your husband to the U.K. which I'm certain he would be allowed to do.
So my suggestions would be to sort the paperwork out as if you were moving to the U.K. (don't even let the Spanish issue complicate things, we are all part of the E.U.) and certainly start the ball rolling with his application for a U.K. passport. You will probably have to make sure that your wedding is registered in the U.K.
I have been living here for 2,5 years now as a non-resident (you don't have to register as a resident, you can live and work here as a non-resident, it's only for tax advantages when selling a property that some people register) and I can't remember even needing or using my passport here in Spain.
The biggest problem your husband will have is with his South African drivers licence. Here it's not recognised at all! He can get an international licence from the A.A. in South Africa (valid for a year I think) but remember that can only be renewed in South Africa.
My advice is to do the conversion in the U.K for a drivers there and then use that here.

We live in the South East of Spain, I have never looked back.
We spend much less on groceries, clothes and general expenditure than we used to in S.A, the weather is awesome, the summers here are even longer than in Cape Town, and it's so nice finally putting behind us all the Bullsh..t politics of S.A and finally getting on with our lives.
It's also good for travelling and my wife is closer to her family in Rome.
Good luck
and all the best
No he must have his own passport to emigrate to another country
South Africans have some funny rules about emigration. I think I'd check there first.

Secondly, unless your husband has UK Citizenship he'll need to get a residence VISA for any EU country you move to.

If you've been married more than 3 years and residing in the UK for those 3 years why not 1st apply for UK Citizenship and then you both can freely move where-ever in the EU you'd like.

Check Homeoffice uk and SA for more info.
You sound like the United Nations!
No. Because you are a British you are entitled to travel to any European country without a problem but your husband is South African and that it is separate. He needs to apply for a immigrant visa in the Spanish embassy. I don't know for how long you have been married but you have failed to claim your husband in order to became a British citizen. Nobody can travel and "piggy" back with somebody else passport. You have to do it by the book. He needs to apply for his visa and in Spain he can submit his papers in the English embassy to became a citizen. Good luck.
i would not think so. Best you apply for your husband to get a british passprt first, that will be making things easier . i hope.
Ask the Spanish Embassy in South Africa, they will give you the definitive answer.
You are an EU citizen and therefore don't need a visa to emigrate, but he may. He may also be denied healthcare etc. Best to ring the Spanish embassy or consulate.
My wife was British and I was South African (same position you are) We also wanted to move to within the EU. As a South African I needed a shengen visa that lasted 6 months only and had to be renewed in London. The easiest way was to come to UK and naturalise British but you must live in UK for 4 years in total ( 3 to get indefinite stay then one more to naturalise) in this time he cannot leave the country for more than something like 290 days. As a British citizen he can travel and live anywhere in
the EU.
However, if you have money in the bank and he is not going to work they may waive all that also if you intend retiring there so speak to the Spanish consulate in SA first.
hey! dont leave SA man!!! its lekker!! haha!! no seriously!! i come from zimbabwe and go to school in the UK and have travelled europe and most of southern africa but SA is still my favorite country..the people are so friendly despite the crime...and i love the Natal so go live there if your not happy with joburg and if u emmigrate anyways i would recommend italy it has a more flavored culture and better food, language and shops and nicer people...the spanish are very patriotic and arrogant about any other nationality...and parts of spain is roamed by the obese red narrow minded british under class who have moved there or go on holiday all the time! and winter is cold as well!
