Can a legal non-citizen marry a US citizen in the US and obtain a legal marriage certificate?
Before you jump into the whole K visa spiel, we're moving abroad for our overseas assignment. Hence, we're not even going to live in the US as a married couple. Given our assignment/job in commerce goes well, we want to keep traveling around the world. SO, can we or can we NOT get married in the US for a marriage certificate? Should we look to other countries?
Bottom line, we love each other and want to travel the world together. Forever.
Answer:
If you married in the U.S. you can obtain a legal marriage certificate. It does not matter if you are in the U.S. legally or not, because the county is the one that issues the marriage certificate not the U.S. Government.
As long as you are legal, yes you can. You must have resided in a certain state for a period of time but that's the case with anyone citizen or not getting married here. The only place I know of that doesn't have that requirement is Las Vegas.
yes, it happens all the time
Yes you can, I know a woman who married an undocumented man and they got a legal marriage certificate and everything.
Depends on the laws of the state you are planning on getting married in.
In the Great State of New York immigration status is not an issue when applying for a marriage license/getting married.
Have no idea how things are in other states but will be very surprised if there are restrictions anywhere.
Hope this helps.
yes
yes, you can marry. My parents did it :) My mom was born and raised in USA and my dad came from Greece. They married in Greece though. By the way, it won't make you a US citizen
Yes you can get married to a us citizen. I married a non citizen. There was not a problem just go to your county with your id's. As long as one person is the us citizen.
yes you can and your marriage will be valid anywhere in the US. However, being married to a US citizen will not necessarily change your immigartion status.
Marriage is a civil right- not dependent on immigration right(s).
Yes, you can get marriage certificate and then marry- not the other way around.
