Can I reenter the US with a H1-B with passport about to expire?

My canadian passport expires in November 2007 but I have a wedding to attend in Vancouver in September 2007. When I return to the US my passport will only have two months remaining. A lot of countries require that a passport be valid for six months. Will this prevent me from reentering the US? If not, will I have to renew my passport right away?

Answer:
If you have a valid I-94 you should not have a problem. but, if you do not, you might be required to obtain a new passport. It appears to me that the officer that gave you the I-94 made a mistake because it should not given it to you. It is a requirement that the passport must be valid for six months beyond the admission date. When you go back to Canada, do not return your I-94. And when you come back presented with your passport.
You will be able to enter with the soon-to-expire passport. There are a number of countries that have agreed to accept passports up to the date of expiration: the US and Canada are among them.

Forget all that stuff about the I-94 card; our friend appears to be confused.
