Should the United States adopt the immigration by-laws of Mexico?

Mexico's General Law of Population make illegal immigration into Mexico a felony. Article 123 states that "a penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of 3,000 to 5,000 pesos will be imposed on a foriengerwho enters the country illegally"

Answer:
The Mexican government (for lack of a better term) is corrupt and hypocritical. They don't promote the fact, but they have a wall/fence along their southern border with Guatemala.
have you seen mexico!!
Yes... but your posting is missing a LOT of facts.

In order for an American to get Legal Alien Status and be a legal immigrant in Mexico, all they need to do is present theirselves at any Mexican Consulate, with their Passport, a certified copy of their Birth Cirtificate, documentation showing they have an independent income of $1000 per month ($1,500 for a couple) and copies of all their vehicle licenses... fill out a simple form... pay the $137 filing fee... and walk out with an official Residen Alien Status that lets you move into Mexico... and take your vehicles and posessions with you.

IT ONLY TAKES ABOUT ONE HOUR to become a LEGAL MEXICAN CITIZEN... that is a far cry from 10 years or more.

This is what Bush wants the U.S. to be like... so, to answer your question... I would say YES.. the U.S. most certainly IS adopting the immigration policy of Mexico.
no i dont think so this is a country built on immigrants!
Hells yeah.
Replace jail time with deportation and make them pay the fees.
Absolutely. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
Yes they should. Shut the friggin border down already.
You mean we are not "already" IN Mexico? I thought the name of my state was Mexifornia?
Imagine how much it will cost in tax money to house all those illegal immigrants for that prison time. It's not worth it. A fine in impractical because there is no way to force them to pay it. If they don't have the cash on hand, you can't seize their assets (they generally don't have any). Perhaps bringing back the chain gangs (in a more humane form) would be a good answer.
Definately. Make it a serious crime, and enforce the law. It is crazy to me that anyone could attempt to justify illegally entering into another country.
What a great idea . They seem to want us to adopt their people , why not their laws too.
They should...that would help deter all the illegal aliens that are wanting to be here...what do we do? Tell them, here is your food, and here is a place to stay, even work and health care of ya!
First why do we want to hold ourselves to their standard second the way it is enforced is terribly whack. If you are american and do this they tend not to use these laws against you. If you are poor they will bring the hammer down on them.
You forgot to mention the unofficial, yet enforced policy of shoot to kill on their southern border. How's that for a deterrent?

We should put all illegals into government prison farms and let them grow food for free; since that's the main argument I've heard...: they do jobs that Americans won't do, like pick strawberries"
