How and where do i apply for an american citizenship if i live in the uk?
Answer:
American Embassy: http://www.usembassy.org.uk/ :-)
Your Embassy
I think you have to have been living in the USA for of number of years first.
You can't unless you marry an American
The US Embassy in London.
You'll need an immigrant visa.
These are provided for different groups:
immediate relatives of US citizens
employment based (you do something for a living that's useful to the USA)
and the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, known as the "green card" lottery. This offers each year (by random selection) 50,000 permanent residence visas to persons from countries that have low rates of immigration to the United States.

I would think that the US Embassy in London would be able to tell you more accurately than any of us. Thanks for applying!! It's amazing how many people just "show up".
Have you ever been to America? I think you would have to live there for a while before applying for citizenship.
why would you want to,i have been to america and it's not all it's cracked up to be .except the fattest nation on earth
You have to apply for green card - doubtful you will get option for citizenship.
You need relative who already lives in US who will be responsible for you financially should you not be able to support yourself.
Green card can take up to 9 months to come through even when married to a resident of US.
You cannot work without a Green Card. Qualified Nurses seem to be in demand in the US and when applying for hospital job will process a green card on employees behalf or at least vouch for your income for a certain period .
Try the US Embassy for more information.
Phone, Library, Internet - Seek and ye shall find.
Note - US citizens only get 2 weeks paid holiday per year.
I think that you have to live here for a number of years first. You can check with the US Embassy in London. I emigrated to the US from UK when I was 8. I am 40 now. I am still a British Citizen with a Permanent Resident status, which allows me to work legally in the US. There are many websites out there to help. Just type in US citizenship and see what comes up. Good luck.
Unless You're US born,(Automatic Citizen)You need to be resident and take the citizenship test,or Marry a US Citizen-that would get You resident status,You'd still have to take a Citizenship test.
You didn't specify if You're a UK Citizen- There is a US "Green Card"(residency) lottery each Year for non-GB Citizens-ie If You Have Irish Parents,or were born on the Island of Ireland,You are eligible to apply for a free residency permit-England,Scotland and Wales are not eligible.Google "Green card lottery" for info.
There are companies that will charge to enter an application for You-so long as You fulfil the Parentage/nationality criteria, all You need is a photo and get the application in on time!
check at the US embassy. But seriously, maybe it's better if you get permanent residency than changing nationality. Being British you have lots of privileges for travelling and not too much bother for visa application (i.e life is easier)...
and just in case whe you get bored of the world, you can always come back to your own country...and you still have your family in UK, right?
it happens to many of the people I know, changing nationalities because they've been permanent residence for quite a number of years. now they gets old and wanna go back to their country but couldn't afford to pay the hefty fees to reverse back to their original nationality. Then they have to stay even though they dont want to.
You start with a work visa or permenant residence. You have to reside here to naturalize as a citizen. Go to the USCIS web page.
try the American consulate
If you want to live in the US.. you have to apply for a HB1 work visa from the US Embassy.. But you may find that you have to have a Degree to obtain one and then your skills have to be able to cover a job that they are short on workforce in, in the US..
It's not easy to get there.. unless you come from one of the countries that they allow a certain amount of immigration from.
The only other way is to marry a US Citizen.. but hey.. make sure you do it all legally.. because even that can't guarantee that you will be able to stay there..
Good luck..
