I am fearful that our relatively informed population is becoming far too dilluted by masses of people who only look at what our government and economy has in store for them instead of what they can contribute to the health of this political system.

Americans are relatively NOT informed about whatever which more far than the local state capital. Some even do not know the name of their state capital, and have never been there. To our regret , most Americans are dumb, lazy and provincial, thus opening opportunities for non_US to come and do out dirty job (like dish washing, etc.) while we watch stupid TV serials, eat popcorn and become fatter and fatter. Sad...
No, I doubt it, they are hungry - a much more fundamental need.

what are you scared of? why does it matter if they give a whatever about the US government. Most Americans don't even vote or care about constitutional principals. George bush is a good example. "Illegals from Mexico" is definitely a sign you don't know they history of South AMERICA. South Americans come into the united states every day. about 300 every day, out of 30,000 that try every day. The reason they try? Their own countries have no jobs and are run by fascist dictatorships. The united states does not like other countries to have democracy. Because that means the US cannot control them, so the US funds gorilla war units for south American fascist governments. many immigrants to the united states face otherwise certain death. I seriously doubt anyone has snuck into our country with the intention of exploiting our government as you have put so eloquently. Most illegals try to avoid any government figures!! Nobody wants to be arrested and deported! The large percentage of people crossing our borders are simply looking for an opportunity at making a better life for themselves and their families, by getting a better paying job.
Making these people citizens would force them to be better contributors to our system. They pay taxes now on all their daily purchases, but our government would clearly benefit from being able to tax their income.
We do need to SECURE our borders, so that we know who is coming here, and we can try to keep those that would harm us from getting here.
Now, you will notice I do not address Mexicans anywhere in this posting. ANY argument about Illegal Immigrants that specifically targets Mexicans, is the argument of a RACIST.
We have had more terrorist threats coming through the Canadian border than we have with Mexico. We have tons of Asian and European Illegal Immigrants coming over the border through Canada. Yet, nobody seems to care about them. Instead, it is all hatred directed at the Mexicans.

Before I answer, I must say, Lucifer, your stupidity has truly shone through your thoughtless comments.
The vast majority of illegal aliens in our country come from South America. If they spent have the effort trying to clean up their own country and fighting against the Drug Cartel, they wouldn't need to come to our country. But, no. They come to our country and take mediocre low paying (under the table) jobs so they can suck our resources dry. They demand that we teach spanish to all so that they don't have to learn our language. They demand that we celebrate their holidays such as Cinco de Mayo (Mexico's independance day) and then they decide to mule drugs into our system so as to turn our country into theirs. The biggest problem with bottom feeders is that they think they need to drag everyone else down to their level to make themselves look good instead of lifting themselves up to any type of minimum standard.
The war is coming, America and if you don't wake up, we will lose without even realizing it was happening. We have been invaded by about 12 million foreign invaders. If we don't round them up and send them packing, we might as well start learning to speak spanish and eating tacos. Long live Northern Mexico (formerly known as America)
