Is it not in our best interest to be one big happy North America?
Great imbalances of power are usually resolved by invasion. So would the US like to be invaded by China? No
China is on target to create enough domestic demand to balance its trade deficit with the US. When this happens our currency drops like a rock and we have no economy because our sole economy is buying cheap products from China.
If we have good relations with Mexico we can remain strong in the face of China's inevitable takeover.
Mexico's integration is painful. The Federal govt. should give the states money to deal with created short run problems. Immigration (illegal if you wish) continues.
Answer:
I can't see Canada going for it. Canada is just too nice of a place to destroy it like that.
Canada and Mexico have more to gain from that union than does the United States.
I wish I had graduated from Stanford.
I'm not against illegal immigration, either. I find the mass hysteria and xenophobic climate in the United States to be disconcerting at best. I'm also a firm believer in free trade, so I obviously see the benefit of international commerce. That being said, I don't know what the US would gain from entering into an EU situation. The EU stifles productive European countries. I'm just not so sure I want to add to many layers of bureaucracy that already exist. My lord, can you imagine the energy and the cost that would go into having some North American union? Yeah, no thanks. Let's enter into free trade agreements and the like instead.
EU is failing. The English is angry that they allowed Poland to join, and now Polish immigrants are invading England. NAFTA, has failed and left Mexico in a worse condition, and Our pay has stagnated. Globilization only takes the morality away from business decision.
Bullshit.
