How many drunk driving illegal aliens must kill Americans before this nation will wake up to this danger?
Here’s the kicker: the culprit is an illegal alien, and this is his fourth DWI offense.
Gomez-Gutierrez, a 25-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico, is now facing his fourth drunken driving charge. But this time it has been elevated to two counts of intoxicated manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid. Investigators say he fled from his disabled vehicle after the wreck.
The handling of Gomez-Gutierrez’s case has sparked criticism from victim advocates. They say they are upset not only for what they call lenient sentences but because immigration officials did not deport him after he finished serving time on three prior DWI convictions in 2002, 2004 and 2005.

Who is at fault? The Harris County Sheriff’s Department blames the feds for not deporting illegals. But local police in Houston have a sanctuary policy that prevents officers from asking suspects about their citizenship status.

I know we already have enough people in America doing this and they face harsher treatment.They cannot obtain another set of documents there is always some kind of paperwork attached to them.If the illegals here wish to drink they should do this at home or have someone sober to bring them home.It would be good if the advocates would start stressing the dangers of DUI as our laws are very different from Mexico's.

This man was dangerous because he drove drunk, not because he's an illegal alien. There are many reasons to hold a position against illegal immigration into the USA, but the "drunk driving" argument just distracts from the real issues, and makes the arguments too shrill and emotional to be reasonably debated.
I'd like to see all drunk drivers receive the harshest possible penalties, no matter where they come from or who they are.

I think we all need to worry more about the number of non-illegal and non-immigrant drunk drivers in the US then worry about the small percentage of illegal immigrant drunk drivers.

I think America is to worried about stupid things to pay attention to this issue. no one should have to die because some party animal decides to get drunk and remembers he/she has to drive home.illegal immagrants or anyone for that matter should show some respect for our country! As far as that I think its only a matter of time before they do it on purpuse. Police Academys are filling up and paris hilton is an example of what happens when you drunk drive there is time and hope.

He KNEW better.if your going to drive a car after becoming intoxicated, then you would have to know what the possible outcomes could be. I'm not pro illegals but if you read the number of drunk driving accidents by citizens you would be amazed ! Some thing dose need to be done about the illegals though .
One of the first things is change the law that makes anyone born here a citizen ,2 illegals have a baby it should not be a citizen just by birth ,then maybe they would stop having so many kids ,the kids grow up and then they sponser the parents ,so not right .

I think you're being paranoid here and maybe the reason why he didn't get deported is because prior to coming here illegally, he probably didn't have a criminal record. Besides, he should've had his license taken from him anyhow after the 3rd offense. I do NOT condone what this man did, but you only want "justice" because he's an illegal immigrant. What if this person came here legally? Would you be saying the same thing? Personally it's the fact that we have such a screwed up immigration system that allows the haves to come in legally because of the excessively high processing fees, but the have nots can't. However, they want a better life too, and they should be able to come here legally without paying a high fee.

Ok you want to focus on a Mexican man but you need to focus on the problem itself. It is not his race but the alcohol that is at fault. How many American's have killed somebody through drunk driving. My sister was killed by a drunk driver and he was American. The point being is something needs to be done about drunk driving.

People are needlessly dying from the open border lobby. The fact is these deaths could have been preventable there is no excuse for anyone here illegally to break more laws, he would have no drivers license,no insurance,fake documents,leaving behind families who are the victims that are left without their love ones, from someone who came for a better life, but in the getting a better life he took away some lives.There is no excuse for this and those who want a better life should not be out there repeatably getting arrested. Well the drunk Mexican killed a women in her early 20s, was convicted and then he had the nerve to sue his employer saying it was the employer's fault that he was driving. Didn't claim responsibility for HIS actions.
