What is the big deal with immigration?

I have no problem with it..I wish they would legalize all these people and make them honest..I am all for it.
There is no big deal on legal immigration we have always welcomed people who play by the rules and want to become Americans. The problem is with ILLEGAL immigration by people who defy our laws and society.
The problem has nothing to do with legal immigration. It's "illegal" immigration that's the problem. Do you want to start with how each illegal immigrant cost tax payers $10,000 or the way much of our already crowded prisons are illegal immigrants?
Your attitude about being here whether we like if or not is another example of illegals and their supporters having no respect for the laws and the people of this country. Most of us have know that illgals that break our laws over and over, if they are granted amnesty, it will be the same old song.
I have an idea,why dont you pay for all the government assistance these people recieve,then ask whats the big deal?
If you want to be an american citizen we want you to have that right, if you violated the law to be here it should cost you a penalty. If you are working a legal job, paying taxes and making a contribution to the economic development of this country, yes there should be a streamlined process to get you legal. But what about my Latino friend that went thru the naturalization process? What compensation do they get for aquiring their citizenship the right way?
It's a tough road Santos, and I think if you want the freedom that I have being born here you gotta wait your turn, or pay a penalty or something. If you been here 5 years or longer and you are productive amnesty with a penalty, and citizenship with a diferent color card, until the penalty is paid.

The problem is the media that is making it a big deal. Most Americans watch the "Illegals" jumping the border or running into the US and they think its an invasion. They think that Illegals are taking away their jobs when that is not even happening. I want to see a citizen working in the fields of Imperial Valley for 16 hours for 9 bucks an hour. I don't think you would see that. Lou Dobbs and the crazy right wing are up to their old tricks by creating hatred and racism towards illegals. Usually that hate is concentrated against Latinos when they seem to overlook the fact that our Asian brothers are also coming in a similar fashion as well as our brothers from Africa. In addition no one has the right to kick anyone out of anywhere because this country does not belong to the Republicans. I read in history books that the Native Americans were and are the actual owners of the Americas. Apparently that fact is overlooked. Just stop making a big deal over nothing!

Do you really think that every illegal will come forward, pay the fine, file the paperwork and become legal? I highly doubt it!! I'd be surprised if 1/2 of the illegals come forward.
As far as amnesty goes, let me ask you this way. Let's say you came here legally by going through the normal process, learned to speak English and became a US Citizen. You wouldn't be upset that people who are breaking laws get amnesty when they never wanted to go through the legal process??? Of course you would. Why shouild illegals be given amnesty when so many immigrants went through the legal process?
I've got a solution for you - send them back and let them apply for citizenship through the proper channels just like everyone else. Problem solved.
Besides - I only see the occasional racist remark in these posts. Quit playing the trump card and claiming "racist" anytime anyone says something that doesn't suit you. How do you know what race I am? My husband is? My family is? You don't, so quit martyring yourself.

we have too much immigration, period
It is so refreshing to see logical people for once. I completely agree with Imjstbob if you are a career criminal and steal and kill and rape - then you should get deported.
However if all you want to do is stay where you call home and work hard, go to school there is nothing wrong with that. Some of the illegals do pay taxes with no benefit of social security and all that jazz.
I do think that the bad ones should be seeded out and the ones trying to better their lives and their families should be given the opportunity.

It is not a paper any more than a cruise ticket is a paper. It is entitlement to space and benefits and presence. We pay for the schools and built them, and yet OUR children have their programs cut to fund ESL for children of people illegally here. Their better life is at our expense, and their children are not more important than ours.

Oh it's more than a piece of paper.. I would say it's more like a monster! Did you know that it is a fact that taking bilingual out of the schools which costs tax payers millions a year the test scores go up? No child left behind or no illegal left behind because the our kids are being dumbed down so that illegals can catch up and frankly most never will.Is that fair? We can't even keep up on the education system in California and there will be a cost to all citizens.Not to mention the culture and cost of living...Can our country afford another 20 million or so and the cost to the tax payers? hmmmmm?Not to mention the hatred and violent crimes done by them alone.
