Why do the British call themselves Ex-pats??
Answer:
The term means expatriat and is deribed from the Latin words ex (out of) and patria (country).
They call themselves ex-pats but the locals in the country they live in would call them immigrants.
spot on pixie-trix
Pixietrix ur on the nail! However, as an Ex-Pat its not confined to the Brits. I work on worldwide projects manned / staffed by many nations / all who refer to themselves as "Expats"
Yes, we live / work away from our homeland(s) - defined as Pixietrix states- but with one prime / major exception - we never forsake our countries, our flags, our beliefs, our families!
Former lumps of cow dung dumped in a field from the a s s and bowels of a beast = a " PAT ". Says it all !!
p.s. your avatar has got the scowl wrong. And that is MINE !
You call yourself an "Ex-Pat" - the locals in the country you move to call you an "immigrant".
ifyou dont know why .maybe you should try becoming one . chrisb .london
