It looks like the bill is 'holding' by a vote of 48 to 49. Who is on which side, do we know?

A lot of these votes are voice votes. Does anyone have the roster?

They voted down attacks on sanctuary cities by one vote today, and phasing out the going forward guest worker program by the same margin.

Are you contacting your Senators?

"WASHINGTON, May 24 — - The Senate narrowly rejected two proposals today that would have upset the delicate compromise embodied in a bipartisan bill to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws.

In both cases, the vote was 49 to 48.

One proposal would have ended a proposed guest worker program after five years. The other proposal would have encouraged state and local government employees to help enforce federal immigration laws.

The purpose of the second proposal was to prevent cities from offering any type of sanctuary to illegal immigrants. "

Answer:
My guess is the reason that they are going with the "voice vote" is because they do not want a record of exactly how they are voting.

I contact EVERY DAY everyone that represents me in gov. When I talk to people (which I do every day because of my job) I remind them to call those in gov. and press them on enforcement of immigration laws. My approach has been simple with those in my area since we are very much affected by the reality of the issue, 'How can they suggest that something isn't working when they are not enforcing' approach.

On the recorded votes, those that are suppose to represent me are doing just that - but who knows what is going on with those voice votes.

I have also made it a point to all that are running for the office of President that this is an IMPORTANT ISSUE to ME and that I expect them to reflect my views and do as the oath of office they take states, 'to uphold the laws'.

I think we should start with a clean house. If you do not have legal right to be in this country (wich CAN mean that you have started application process for citizenship) then you need to start packing and go back to wherever you are a legal citizen. If the Goverment where your from sucks, then it is up to you as a citizen to find a way to improve it. Not to run from it.
Reid, Kennedy, Menendez, Leahy & Salazar are the only ones I know for sure that support it (sponsor, and 4 co-sponsors, repectively).

There are so many different people proposing different things, and cosponsoring, I'll let you take a look at each. There was a lot that happened on it yesterday.
i would have to agree with Coleman. i say no to this amnesty bill. and kennedy needs to retire, he looks like he can hardly move. is he that desperate to mess this country up?
Boy we do enjoy shooting ourselves in the foot don't we. Both sides are so damned worried the other will score some sort of victory for the people that nothing ever gets accomplished.
If this bill doesn't pass, all illegals will remain illegal and we can't do anything about it. Wouldn't it be better for us to know who's here and where they live?
