This question is for those who Legally adopted our Country?
Answer:
I will answer for my husband,I know how he feels. He would say, it was insane! We must protect our borders every other country does. He was a refugee from eastern Europe in 1971.He new he was breaking the law by leaving his communist country but he was a free spirted person who really wanted to be free. He knew what he was facing by leaving his entire family, mom, dad siblings, that at that time in history he could never go back home once he left or he would face a long jail sentence and get his family in trouble too. He lost all of his things during his crossing, went over to Italy to stay for more than one year in a refugee camp while Interpol did a background check on him.(The Italians were great to the refugees, they knew they weren't going to stay in Italy very long) He tried out France and Sweden but decided to come to the USA when he was invited to come. He was a skilled laborer so the USA was glad to have someone with his manufacturing skills. The US taxpayers didn't pay to bring him over here.A group of manufacturers paid his fare.He was put up for 2 weeks in a run down hotel in NY,NY.He was giving a few job leads and went out immediatly and got a job. He went to night school after work to learn English.Really, just like alot of other good hard working people who want to come to the states and blend in with everyone else. He refused to teach our son his native language because we are all Americans who speak English. He would say that the illegals from some of the countries we have coming over now, don't want to blend in and never will. It will destory our way of life.
Well my family came in through Ellis Island and before that. We actually didn't come here legally nor illegally. The US didn't have that concept prior to 1918 when it instituted the necessity to use a passport.
Thus because my ancestors were asked to be fit of mind and body I say we do the same for those coming in.
without working for it? A background check, $5000, 8 years without any crime, all taxes must be paid is not working for it?
Under the current legal system if I own 20 sheep on farm I get a greencard...that sentence however false you think it is, is true...ask any immigration lawyer
You tell me whitey!
I believe that America is still free and everyone should be aloud to come here that being said I also think there should be guide lines such as you must become a citizen with in 6 months and you can not receive assistance from the government I mean in the early 1900's we didn't have food stamps they worked for it. Also everyone should have to speak English in able to be a citizen PERIOD
I am a 3rd generation American, but I think I can add some insight to your question. My brother went out with a friend of his last night, the friend is a Mexican American. They went to a local bar. My brother said he was the only white man in there. At first he was a little imitated until he heard some of the guys in there speaking fluent English. They are so angry at what is happening. One of the guys came here legally 30 years ago, raised 4 kids and is sick of his tax money going to support illegals. So I don't think this is a racial issue with them.
what do you think would happen if you walked into INS and said (in spanish) hi, my name is juan, i am here seeking asylum? there would be no asylum for you. as the death squads roamed central america in the 80s and 90s, less than one in three were granted asylum. the rest deported back to their home countries. as most of our undocumented workers can be deemed economic refugees few if any are granted sanctuary. and the rules make it all but impossible for poor uneducated farmers to qualify for work permits. still, these folks are by and large refugees, and they are not all mexicans by the way. many are from guatemala, honduras, salvador, and nicaragua.
no i don't believe in granting "legal status without working for it." at the same time i don't consider these folks criminal as i would do the same in their shoes.
