Why doesnt our government control immigration, when the overwhelming majority of americans want it?
Answer:
Because the majority of people in america (not Americans) are either here illegally, or have been brainwashed by either; morons, liberals, or people who have illegal relatives. you are right though the majority of AMERICANS want it but the polititions(sp?) re afraid that illegals will (and they do) have voting power to kick them out of office, they're all chicken. Vote for Ron Paul in '08 he won't be afraid to shut them down.
YOU MY FRIEND ARE A MINORITY. DO NOT KIDD YOURSELF.
Because of all the lobbying that is allowed the corporations took control of washington and this country, the people and politicians are really not in control anymore unless you consider taking a payoff and voting against your constituents wishes being in control
The Republicans want cheap labor for business. The Democrats want their votes. Neither party cares about what the people want.
They say they want immigration reform(both party's) but they don't enforce the laws that are in place now. The law now basically says that no employer shall employ anyone who does not have proper documentation. The Mexicans say we cannot live with out them but there are more than 5 million people waiting in line doing it legally that would love to take their place.
Firstly, the claim that "an overwheming majority want it" is more than a bit suspect. Secondly, the immigrants are doing useful and necessary jobs, and trying to build a better life here, just as your ancestors (and mine) did.
It's not a matter of the government not wanting to control immigraion, it's a matter of them figuring out how they want to do it. What the majority of Americans want exactly is up to debate, and I think most Americans are clueless as to the facts on either side of the debate.
I don't think the overwhelming majority of Americans are very passionate about immigration control. There are millions of people who aren't even aware that it's become a problem. Many more know about the problem, but have fallen for the argument that we need the cheap labor to keep prices low. They don't stop to wonder (or remember) what people did ten/twenty/fifty years ago when we didn't have hoardes of immigrants underbidding American workers. Prices were actually more reasonable back then, and taxes were definitely lower. It's not very hard to stroke people into complicity when you assure them that the best course of action is to sit back and do nothing. People like doing nothing. It's easy.
Those who do want the government to do something about it have had their voices drowned out by corporate lobbyists because it's the corporations that benefit from illegal labor. By hanging the Damoclean sword of deportation over the heads of their immigrant workers, they can get away with all sorts of nasty human rights and safety violations of the sort that Americans wouldn't stand for. These morally bankrupt CEO's and board members use the vast amounts of money they save with wage cuts and other such benefits to bribe and pressure officials into watching out for their interests -- not the public's. They're not above promising thousands of votes by rounding up their workers and herding them to the polls with phony papers in hand.
I believe that the majority of people would like to see the immigration problem under control, but not an "overwhelming" majority. Those that would like to see the problem solved aren't very forceful about it. Things won't change until larger numbers of people get frightened and/or pissed off about it.
It is the same in the U.K.! let 'em all in and then wonder why
they try to blow us all up! As always, "lessons will be learned"
When it's too ruddy late. Good morning to all our American
Cousins!
Good morning to you Gisburn! I think that America has been bought and paid for by big business. Why else would all of our manufacturing and other high paid jobs be outsourced to God knows where? It is all about the all mighty buck. The government isn't worried about repercussions because most Americans don't vote & brag aout it being their free speech! That is why dear cousin I want to go and live on your side of the pond and watch from a distance as America implodes. It is bound to happen sooner or later.
Greed!
