How long should it take to become an American Citizen?

My fiance has lived in the US for about 8 years now and he still has not received a notice to go to the ceremony to become an American Citizen. How long done this usually take? He has his green card and has passed the test, which he took when he got here. Why is it taking so long?

Answer:
You should probably call immigration more than likely there has been a clerical screw up it tends to happen more often than not. Second do not listen to dogcatt since the dope did not read you whole statement. It seems you did everything right it is probably the fact that they did something wrong.
Maybe he needs to contact the Immigration office?
I wish I knew that answer, but took my grandmother and everyone else in my family around 1 year. Are you aure his visa and/or greencard is updated and not expired?
He should contact Home Land Security or go to a local immigration office and ask them. Make sure he takes all his paperwork and prove he is working.

It took my wife a total of 6 years before she swore in and become a citizen. I am sure others have done it sooner. Good Luck.
it will take 3 to 5 years to become an american citizen. are you sure that he applied for citizenship? if he passed the naturalization test and interview, the notice for the naturalization ceremony will take only after 3 weeks. if you are in doubt, call the USCIS National Customer Service Center @ 1-800-375-5283.

I had a green card, and got my citizenship in 8 months. Call your immigration office and ask about the case
Well it took my parents 4 months to get their citizenship. They applied in Oct 2006. and was sworn in on Feb 2007. Different states take longer than others.
