What are the new passport laws for permanent residents?
Answer:
The new laws say you must show a passport to re-enter the US, from any foreign country. The previous law said that you could reenter from Mexico, Canada, and the Carribean without a passport. However, because of the huge backlog at the State Department, the law has been postponed. You should be able to reenter with a certified copy of your birth certificate, but check with the state dept to be sure.
So, you already have your passport? go to the post office and fill out the necessary forms to replace it. By the way, you can travel out of country with a GC.
