Did you hear about the Texas town that passed an ordinance 62% to 38% to NOT rent to illegals? What ya think!?
Of course there will be the legal challenges but they are ready to take it to the Supreme Court. So far they have received more sales tax from supporters in other towns and the results have been positive. Do you think this is a correct action for the town to make?
I think it's great and more cities should follow their lead!!!
Answer:
I think it is great and like you i think others should follow. That's the kind of place I would like to move to. I am sure that the ACLU and other liberals are going to fight this.
Every time I hear of another city doing this, I get so excited. Its about time more places start sending the message.
If the federal government wont control illegal aliens, then it it up to state and local officials. I've been trying for two years to get my local government to do the same thing, however, we have a Tyson chicken operation in the county hiring a thousand or more (I would bet 1/2 are illegals) and they don't want to take on the issue.
Sounds like the makings of one solution - the property owners may change their minds when local businesses shut down because of increased costs when they have to begin paying payroll taxes on 'legal' workers and there isn't anyone left to rent their apartments.
They should pass a law not to rent to those who mate with their sister either. How much will it cost taxpayers to support children which serious deformities?
The 62% margin would change immediately!
I think 38% of the people in the aforementioned Texas town are either ignorant or evil. That is what I think!
It's about time!!!! A WONDERFUL idea, and they can't implement it fast enough for my taste.
When is this government going to grow a set and tell Mexico ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!??
it's great. i heard it this morn on the news. they said it will cost, but it will be worth it in the end. wonderful news.
I agree~!
GOOD!!
I think I may have to buy some property in that town. I want to live in the USA again where ENGLISH is the spoken language.
I completely agree! This is definitely a step in the right direction. Illegals are violating FEDERAL LAW...we have the right to do everything we can to prevent them from coming here and if making housing unavailable to them is part of it, I am all for it! This is in part, why my husband & I are flying out to Texas in August to buy some land! Texas does not take crap and that's exactly why I want to live there! In NJ (where we unfortunately live now) 6 Muslim illegals were plotting to attack Ft. Dix, 4 seperate car accidents with illegals driving drunk lead to the deaths of 3 American citizens. This is just in the last few months! It is disgusting and this state with our pos governor will never do anything about it!
If you have to show ID to buy cigs or alcohol, it should be no trouble to show proof of citizenship to do anything in this country.
The problems lies with the politics, they have no balls.
You can't depend on the government to maintain control over the border, so it's time to start having the people that provide housing for them start to help.
This whole thing about Amnesty, NO! Amnesty being granted for the millions that are already here will do nothing but hurt our economy over the course of the next ten years. If the church wants to provide Amnesty, let them set up their own network of funding so the people that are citizens and here legally won't be affected by additional taxes with an even higher risk of having no social security.
If you want to sue college students for illegally downloading music, you need to start deporting people for entering the country illegally and charging them for everyday they have spent here. They also need to be more stringent upon employers and sending them to prison for employing people illegally because they know it's more money in their pocket.
They are now trying to pass a bill in Annapolis to pay for 25 ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS to go to college for free; how is that fair for those of us working our butt off, here legally or citizens, for you to support illegal deeds? The government needs to wake up. Don't keep throwing 9/11 in my face as your scare tactic if you are going to provide Amnesty to illegal immigrants.
-----Sorry, kind of went on a rant :)
I think it is great!!! I hope it sends a message to Congress that the American people want change and the change we want is enforcement of our laws.
Unfortunately Ted Kennedy never did care what the American people want and Queen Hillary hired the past president of La Raza to head up her campaign. Keep the ball rolling by NOT voting for the pro illegal crowd.
Get ready for a lot of empty apartments, and ultimately, empty pockets for landlords. Lower property values in the end (if nobody wants to live there).
I have a couple of points to make about this. First, they are illegal..what are they doing renting without a social security number..isn't that illegal in itself?
Secondly, all those folks that think it's so darned inhumane to kick poor mexicans out of the country when they are only trying to feed and educate their kids...put your money where your mouth is and sponsor them personally, so they can live here legally without needing govt help.
Maybe we should have an extra box on a W-2 form, for those that think kicking out illegals is inhumane. Check the box and you officially designate yourself as a proponent of illegal immigration, and furthermore you promise to pay a certain 'extra' amount of taxes in order to fund their needs in this country. This fund could pay for their food, their children's education, their medical care. It certainly would be interesting to see..how many of you that call hard working, tax paying folks like me inhumane, actually are willing to pay the price for your opinion. I just happen to have kids to feed and educate too..every penny you give away to an immigrant child is a piece of food that comes directly out of my childs mouth and goes right into theirs. I certainly wasn't the one that chose to bring that child into the world..so why on earth should I be required to pay, in full..for it?
I certainly agree..EVERY city and town in this country..should be kicking them all out...
Psi..You're missing the point. If the apartments stand vacant does that really matter? I say you levy heavy fines on landlords that rent to illegals. So heavy that it makes it completely uneconomical to rent to them. Those landlords may gain a few dollars every month if they rent to illegals, because they don't have to keep the housing up to the same standards that they would for legal residents and citizens. But the truth is that the cost to the country is enormous..because we then have to cover the other costs of them and their families remaining in the country. Renting to illegals should be considered just that..illegal.
it's about time!! Now if more citiies and towns would follow their example!
It is a good law but I am just wondering how it will be enforced. Will the landlord make me have to provide a passport to show my citizenship or my birth certificate. One document that is easily forged. I just want to see how it works in the real world.
BRAVO!!!..it's about time!!
Sorry I don't agree with this rule.
I think renting should be allowed but you can't own a home. What is going to happen as a result for those who aren't getting deported is they will be in homeless shelters with their kids, stay overnight at churches which churches are now setting up for that.
I think it's going overboard. The law should be you can't own a home unless you can provide proof of citizenship and that you can afford a home like all citizens must do here but renting should be for everyone.
I like it. Its nice to see that they are taking a stand and yelling it out get out we do not want yo here.
Great!
I think it is a shame that a town has to take up federal laws and issues but when your government is basically doing NOTHING then the townspeople felt they had to take it upon themselves, I hope it starts a trend - you should not be breaking the law by renting to an illegal immigrant who is also breaking the law and Farmers Branch, TX citizens are taking on the issue.
Great, every town should do the same.
It is about time, can't wait for other cities to do this.
