If you are going to live in Spain it is advisable to have residenzia. There are no problems with it, and it gives you access to the Spanish national health system, which is the same as the British system, also you will not need to carry your passport and show it everytime you use your credit card, as a small ID card is issued which everyone carries in their wallet or bag, this has your photo and fingerprint and makes identity theft impossible. Good luck with your venture.
As an EEC citizen you are entitled to receive a service, similar to the NHS in the UK, however, the 'local' Doctor will be appointed for you and you will have no choice; which means he may not understand any English and unlike the NHS in the UK an interpreter will not be appointed for you at the services expense.
