Hello. I have an interview for change of status this wednesday but unfortunately my passport has expired.. Is it possible for the immigration to stamp my passport eventho it is expired or do i need a renewed passport to be able to get stamped?? (assuming i got approved).. One more thing.. if ever they stamped my passport, am i OK to get a driver's license?
Answer:
It does not matter if your passport is expired. What matters is the expiration date of the stamp. If you going to travel outside the U.S. I would recommend you to ask for a temporary I-551. They will give you the top portion of an I-94 and they will put your picture on the right top corner with a stamp on it.
Do you mean you have a US Green Card and a Passport from the Country you are from? If so, why does it matter that your passport expired?
INS no longer stamp on passports for green card approval. However, you will still show them your passport at the interview. They will take the I-94 from you and tell you to wait for your green card in the mail. To get a driver's license, you will need to show unexpire documents.
