That's a pretty good question as far as technology goes. Many years ago with the introduction of the telephone many woman had jobs as phone Operators. Hundreds of them actually, now as technology progressed we just need a few dozen "geeks" to control the hardware. Immigrants ARE here to work, send money home to take care of their families. I have no problem with that. What I have the problem with (as a 5th generation American...by means of the legal process) are the ILLEGAL immigrants. The other problem is that they don't move back. They just pay coyotes to bring their families here one by one. I know this to be true. I worked with a Mexican National that came here illegally, obtained fake identification, fake Social Security number, and paid 2500 per family member to come here illlegally! Permanent abandonment here in this country? What is the reference on that? If a "father" abandons his family he is not worth keeping if that is his first choice.
Techology in the workforce actually means more jobs just higher trianed fields.. someone has to create the technology, manyfacture it, transport it, set it up, maintain it, repair it, and replace it when it gets obsolete.
So more jobs get created in the end.. but those jobs take a different skill set to obtain
Humans have always replaced humans in the end. For example in a gas station you once had a human who had to pump the gas and collect money and all you bought there was fuel. now you pump the fuel, and can pay at the pump.. BUT instead of maybe 2 or 3 employees working the pumps over the day you get 5-8 per shift running registers, and cooking food and such, but also have a support staff to come in if there are problems with the technology running the pumps. so you have some basicially trained personnel running the store but have some technicially trained persons to maintain the registers and pumping equipment, netting you more jobs overall
Considering that the TECHNOLOGY that you are talking about will need someone behind it, No, it wont be.
Illegal aliens KNOWINGLY come over here, not to get jobs, because MOST of them already HAVE jobs in their county of origin.
Permanent abandonment? Just because most USA citizens KNOW that living 20+ is against housing codes and in general not healthy, I would REALLY like to know how you come to this conclusion? And the ONLY reason WHY illegals live like this is because they are wanting MORE money and they don't want to see it go out on living expenses like rent.
I agree with your futuristic thinking on how will technology replace human workforce. The truth is, it is not impossible. Investing in machines and technology is far more viable in the long term and companies tend to make choices based on what's best for the company-thus investing in technologies rather than the human workforce. Today,most first world countries had already begun this trend. Vending machines, reloading stations, online banking, online shopping and many more. We just don't notice the impact yet but sooner or later this will be one of the problem that will shake Labor Departments all over the world.
Probably, and we'll all have chips implanted in us to purchase items, etc. ezwider--do you not think that the government has something to do with your ill grandma? all the cuts for seniors and social security, while we pay for all these welfare abusers to sit around and make more unwanted babies-that's why there's no care for your grandma because our taxes go to skank welfare recipients who take our money. And, what US citizen really wants to work in a nursing home? haven't you noticed they are all foreign?
It is not technology is increasing the need for more qualified people, which in the most if the time give more opportunities for more qualified people from where ever they are, be qualified and you will get your opportunity where ever it is.
