Traveling with an expired green cards?
I know of someone that is in the process of obtaining a renewed resident cards but she need to go back to her country for medical reasons. I'm trying to get as much information as I can as if is okay to reenter the US with an expired green card but I have not found the answer I'm looking for.
Can anyone please help me on that.

Answer:
If your application form I-90 is in process and you have proof of filing form I-90 then go to your local immigration office and they can issue you temporary proof of status. If you e-filed the I-90 and have your receipt take this or any other receipt with you. and remember your card expires not your status.
I think you can apply for "advance parole" which allows you to travel while your application is being processed. But you have to show proof of the reason for that travel, and state its likely duration BEFORE you travel. I suggest you consult a lawyer who specialises in immigration issues before the person travels.
stay out!!!!!
going out of the US with an expired green card is possible, however, re-entering would be a problem, because immigration officers will check it. so i suggest renew it first before traveling.
