I want to help my friend, her cousin has been hospitalised in Germany, no insurance, brain damage severe?
Answer:
First of all - he should have a health insurance, shouldn't he? So you should contact his British Health Insurance and investigate whether they will cover the costs. Another important thing: why was he in Germany? Was he on holidays? Did he by any chance sign-up for any travel insurance? Is he a member of the RAC? Ask them whether they might cover the costs. Was he on a business trip? Then his employer should cover the costs. And - in case everything fails: contact the Red Cross. I am a member of the Red Cross - they cover transport costs for Red Cross members, but maybe they will help your friend as well.
Good luck.
I REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS ONE AS GERMANY and BRITAIN ARE PART OF THE EU..Won't social medicine cover the cost?
I have heard these types of stories before. Because i speak German if you can give me some info like name and hospital I'll be happy to check it out for you.
Sorry to hear that sad tale. It is all about money, too bad. If the German doctors said they can do no more, maybe your friend can talk to an independent doctor for a second opionion. If it is hopeless for him, I suppose there wouldn't be much point in bringing him back to England. It is hard to say goodbye but sometimes you have to.
The question is indeed : Why doesn't he have health insurance?
Can't you try to get one for him?Either a british or a german?
If he lives in germany, he should be able toget german insurance, and there are federal health ins. comp. that pretty much have to take everyone as long as certain conditions are kept.If that's an option, mail me, I can write to them and ask.
