Why cant the British people living in spain accept the fact that they are MIGRANTS and not EXPATS?
why cant they just own up that they have gone to seek a better life rather than hidding under the umbrella called expats,
Answer:
We can and do, thank you.
LOL, very good question. They're the sort of migrants that sit on the costa del sol writing letters to the Daily Mail complaining about all the migrants in the UK. Pot, Kettle, anyone ...?
Essentially, it is the same thing.
HAHA. The same could be applied to wealthy American "expats" living abroad in Mexico and other 3rd world nations (to escape tax laws), posting blogs about illegal immigrants using up American resources while providing very little (or anything at all) to their new adopted homeland.
Kudos.
You are right...in fact as far as the Spanish are concerned we are immigrants or even sunshine seekers!
A: Who says they can't accept it ?
B: What difference does it make ?
its because they dont want to fall into the same catagory as the polish, asian, afro caribean and other communities that have taken their place here in the u.k as being lowly immigrants. not that theres anythiong wrong with being an immigrant ofcourse but being british they want to be a cut abopve the rest by calling themselves ex pats
The ones I have met in the Past in Spain are a snotty lot!.
They treated the locals with contempt and walked around as if they owned the place. They don't know just how much the Spanish hate them.I did too!
Oh, they could keep this up for a very long time. Just look at the Yankee "transplants" in the South- esp. Florida. The last time I checked Florida was in the south as much as it's possible to be but. . . whatever. It's like some people want to spend their lives as a tourist.
Well, I live in Spain and regard myself as a European - it is only the British who still think they have an Empire and, as such, are above any other Europeans. The Spanish think of themselves as Spanish first and Europeans second.
I have a lot of Spanish friends, we integrate into the local community and culture. Expats are people who no longer live in their own country.
But you are right in one respect, it is a much better life here and would not return to the UK for a lottery win.
i wonder
LOL another load of migrant confusion.British living in Spain are NOT migrants, they retain real British nationality and are often rich ex patriots. Not to be confused with social security spongers coming to the UK and depending on UK soft touch handouts. Expatriots have differing status types such as "Non UK domicile BRITISH" etc
Rich foreign residents in Spain are ex. pats the tsunami of the poorest and least educated migrants to the UK are migrants. We real British never stole the nationality of any country because we are not ashamed of our nationality.
British lived for over 400 years in India and returned still calling themselves British as they were. Unlike Indian and Islamic people coming to the UK who call themselves "British" at the airport. Moreover; Spain is in the EU and we have the right to move to another EU country under ex patriot status..
This may be something Indian and Islamic people do not know but neither India nor Islam are in the EU , get educated ,check it out !
