Is Rudy Giuliani soft on illegal immigration? Has he flip-flopped?
Answer:
No, he has not flip-flopped. He is still an advocate for illegal aliens. He continues to support legal paths for illegal aliens. He continues to tie national security to granting shamnesty to illegals. He not so cleverly tries to disguise his support for illegal aliens, but he cannot disguise his record. He avoids most questions currently about illegal aliens. His law and order platform is hollow, since he has actively obstructed NY police from pursuing illegal aliens.
"If you come here, and you work hard, and you happen to be in an undocumented status, you're one of the people who we want in this city."
Remember he filed a lawsuit and lost against the federal government against welfare reform legislation that required state and local authorities to report illegal aliens to the Immigration and Naturalization Service. The law stipulated that only citizens and certain legal immigrants were to receive food stamps and imposed financial penalties on states that did not verify the legal status of those applying for the stamps.
At the heart of the issue was an executive order by former New York City Mayor Ed Koch (D.) that had been reissued by successive Mayors David Dinkins (D.) and Giuliani. Executive Order 124 forbade city employees from telling federal authorities the immigration status of illegal aliens who sought social services.
“On Sept. 5, 2001, his handpicked charter-revision committee ruled that New York could still require that its employees keep immigration information confidential to preserve trust between immigrants and government. Six days later, several visa overstayers participated in the most devastating attack on the city and the country in history.”
He is trying to backtrack now as a result of the backlash directed at the reform bill, which he is on record of supporting.
he is what ever he needs to be to get your money or vote.
He is anti-Bush. I would never vote for any of these anti-Bush GOP candidates.
Great for him. At least he knows what is possible and what has to be done (realistically)
Yes, he flip flopped for the better. He will probably use the facts from 9/11 to justify the flip-flopping. Mayor Bloomberg, who "may" also run president, is even softer on illegals and he will not flipflop.
He has made statements supporting amnesty. Too bad. Other than that he seems OK. But I cannot support / vote for him...
he's a republican need i say anymore
His law firm represents the Spanish company contracted to build the Nafta Superhighway so that tells me he is a globalist traitor.
I don't know what he believes. Since immigration is a "deal breaker" for me I am questioning if I could support Rudy.
However, if it came down to Rudy or one of the socialist dems it would be Rudy. It would be like when Jorge Bush ran both times - the lesser of two evils. (The dem was more evil.)
