What 1 thing would you like to see changed about our citizenship laws?

For me, I think we should repeal the rule making every child born on US Soil aUS citizen. At least one of the parents should be able to prove they are a citizen before we bestow that privilege. What do you think people? Remember just 1 thing.

Answer:
I agree with you.soemthing needs to be done about the anchor babies :(
I'd like them to be enforceable and understandable to the average American. 300 plus pages - what were they thinking.
Absolutely, anchor baby's are a very broad interpretation of the constitution.
We have immigration laws, we need to enforce it, and the corrupt people not enforcing it should go to jail, they are waisting our money.
I have no problem with children born in the US be given citizenship and when they have returned home with their illegal mother they can come to the US when they turn 18 and can decide if they want to be a US citizen or not.
im with you on that. i just found out that there are actually "tourist pregnancy" trend right now. where pregnant citizens of other countries are coming here when they're 8 months pregnant to deliver their babies here so they will become automatic US citizens and will be eligible for all rights our country has to offer even if they wont live here after birth. i guess in that way, a child with US passport can never be denied access therefore a non-US citizen adult can accompany the child.
I was in the military and can say that the average American would be surprised at the number of non-citizens who enlist in our armed forces every year. Personally, if their willing to put their lives on the line for our country we should honor them by granting them citizenship or at the very least accelerate the process for them. It doesn't happen that way though.
I agree with you. Being illegally here or a tourist should not render your children born here into citizens.
I agree about the babies.

I also think that people who hire illegal aliens should be prosecuted.

When illegal aliens (not immigrants) are arrested or discovered for any reason at all, they should be deported. Children, born here or not, belong with their parents.

Most US citizens are descendants of immigrants. Immigrants come in the front door with permission. They obey quotas, study to become citizens, and try to assimilate once here. Do you see any signs in Irish, African, German, French, Dutch, or Italian?

Illegal aliens sneak in the back, when no one is looking.

If someone breaks into your home, do you let them stay and share what you work hard to provide for your family?
I think the laws on paper are awesome for anyone who wants to spend months going through them. What is needed is someone willing and able to implement them as they are on paper. This would make it hard to do illegal immigration (and have repercussions), make sure that the immigrants who do want to do it the right way are not back benched and make sure that those who do immigrate are able to speak in English. I do agree that kids born here of at least one citizen should be granted citizenship. A way that the non citizen parents could get their kid the choice is do what they do in some other countries. Register the birth on US soil and this gives the child until they are 18 to rapidly apply for citizenship without a lot of hassle. It works.
I don't beleive a child born here with illegal parents should get citzenship. Being born here shouldn't get citizenship. Or...I will say this...if you are born here with both parents being illegal...you must give up citizenship and all rights to your parents country. Once you're 18.PICK 1. Not 2, not an alternative. Pick one. No free pass for all your relatives.

I really don't get this idea that if you were an immigrant of the past.all your family members got a free ticket. Didn't happen. Familys have been seperated and torn apart since the beginning. Didn't happen. I know people from other countries where the family pooled money so 1 person could get here. Not even so much as a HOPE that any other family member would get here. That is a lie. BOLD faced out-right LIE..

That's about as true as "for the sake of the children". A LIE. BOLD>>>OUT-RIGHT LIE.

I'm not saying the alternative would have been better or worse.I'm just saying.DIDN"T HAPPEN. Maybe for a few rich people.but I KNOW.there was NEVER a free ticket and path to citizenship for ALL family members. NEVER... ever.even for LEGAL immigrants. EVER.
Si I agree with fern's gurl
