What are the various ways to move out of the united states if not permanently, at least for several years?

get resident alien status in another country (try their embassy or consulate) or apply for citizenship in those countries.

This is the best way.
Look for Civil Service (Government) jobs outside the US. If you land one you can live on a military base for free and make tax free money.
Go to Miami beach and grab one of those Cuban's when they come ashore and trade your drivers licence for their cardboard boat and shove off.
Each country has it's own policies. Figure out where you want to go first. Then work from there. If you wanted to move to Australia, for example, you can contact the Australian embassy closest to you and determine what steps you would have to take.
The other choice is to join the military. I know several people who are in the Air Force and have lived overseas for years.

you could always get a working /temporary visa to Australia or Canada or wherever you intend to move, save some money and be on your way.
Do something really stupid then tell the INS you are an illegal alien from whatever country you want to be deported to and they will send you there for free.
Look for a job there, then get a visa to said country.
Wouldn't recomend forces, have a friend who spent 17 years posted 2 miles from his home village, and kept getting transfer requests refused.
