If your course is less than 18 hours/week, you may not need a student visa. If it is more that 18 hours/week you most probably will need a visa that will require you to request one from your embassy/consulate in your home country. How Can I Change My Nonimmigrant Status to Become a Student if I Am Already in the United States?
You first must apply to study at a USCIS-approved school in the United States. When you contact a school that you are interested in attending, you should be told immediately if the school accepts foreign national students.
If you are accepted, the school should send you USCIS Form I-20 M-N/ID (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (M-1) Student Status - For Vocational Students). You must submit this form, your I-94 (Arrival-Departure Record), and a completed USCIS Form I-539 (Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status) to the USCIS.
You must also prove that you have the financial resources required for your education and stay in the United States.
Okay, the last guy has it right. I'm assuming that you meant that you didn't want to leave the country to change to student visa (F-1). Truthfully, that can be hard. It'll depend on what country you're from, how long you've been here, and how much time is left on your I-94 card (little white one from the airport). You'll have to get accepted to a university and apply for a Change of Status (I-539 form). There are all sorts of fun fees, an essay, lots of documentation, etc. You mail it in and have to wait. Your B-2 visa cannot expire while you're waiting for your response. If you get the approval, you can start studying on the new I-20 that your school will provide you with. If not, you'll have to leave when your B-2 status expires (based on the I-94 card).
The thing to remember is that if you do get an approval to change status, you'll have to go to a US embassy next time you leave to country so that you can get an F-1 visa stamp in your passport. You will not be able to re-enter the US without it, even if you have a valid I-20.
