So does the punishment fit the crime in this case?
Eagan is only sixty minutes away from me. Could have been me or my wife or any of us.
Illegal Immigrants need to go. They do not know our laws and should not be here regardless of how great America is.
Story was in yesterdays Star Tribune.
Answer:
Legal or illegal he should have been given a more harsh punishment .
As soon as it is discovered that someone is here illegally, he or she should be deported
But according to all the bleeding hearts on here, he deserves the chance to make a better life for himself. Even though it has cost the life of another.
I couldn't agree more!
That fool deserves a good ol' fashioned hangin'.
I don't understand why they didn't deport him when they caught him ... will he be deported when he gets out of jail?
... and how does an illegal get a drivers license?
Actually, he was convicted of a felony and therefore is supposed to be deported upon release. The people of Minnesota need to insist that he be deported immediately upon release with the understanding that illegally returning to this country will result in further prosecution. Knowing our useless federal government, this will not happen, but we can hope things change.
and it would be perfectly OK with you if he wasnt an illegal immigrant?
I bet you couldn't care less and you would actually find it funny if an American drunk ran over an illegal...
Although, I sympathize with your position, the fact is, the Manslaughter charge is separate from his immigration status and that minimum sentencing would have occurred whether or not the person driving the vehicle was a citizen or not. No, we should not sentence him to more time because he's illegal.
Now, the other side of the coin. Prior to his release from prison, he should be turned over to Homeland Security as an illegal alien and then deported as soon as he's "paid his debt" here. I am a firm supporter of denying legal status to anyone previously deported as an illegal alien, on the basis of their historical lack of respect for US law.
Bottom line, both issues need to be addressed with this individual, but the acts are not conjoined to a single offense or a single jurisdiction.
Why do you care??As long as it wasnt you!!!!get a life...
If your country America did not raise a nation of "dope fiends" that occupy 65% of the prison system, and jail minority (s) at a higher rate that Anglos for the same crimes, that results is a prison population in excess of 2 million. There would be room to house the real dangerous criminal in our society. You anglos perfer to use the law to control minorities, you can not have it both ways!!
In this case it does because the crime he committed was vehicular manslaughter, not flat out homicide. Since it's obvious that he intended to commit suicide and not murder, you can't charge him with murder just because he's an illegal immigrant. That's NOT how the law works and you know it. So he should have his license revoked for crashing himself into a tree in a suicide attempt the first time around because he's an illegal immigrant? However, you don't suddenly decide to commit suicide, especially when he probably had an underlying mental illness and needed help. Had he been drinking while driving, then he would've had his license suspended. That first accident didn't harm anyone else nor did it take anyone's life, so there wasn't any reason to have his license revoked, besides he didn't have a record listing any previous violations. You're more concerned over the fact that this guy, who ended up killing an innocent woman in an attempt to commit suicide that failed and doesn't have a previous prison record, walks free because he committed vehicular manslaughter and NOT the more serious charge of murder? Seems to me like you want to keep the hispanics down.
