I heard that once my African husband gets here, it may be up to 3 years before he can work. Is this true?
Answer:
will he be entering on a tourist visa first? or a spousal visa? if he enters on the spousal visa, he should be able to work right away. now...that visa takes anywhere form 6-16 months to get. but he'll be in africa during that time anyways. if he enters on a tourist visa, awaiting approval for the spousal visa, he won't be able to work until the visa is approved.
working is not related to citizenship.
Three years working on you will be hard enough
Probably. If he was Mexican he'd be working right away though. They know the secret I guess.
no, if you were to move to africa, it would take you 3 years to be allowed to get a legit job, if he moves here, he must become a citizen before attempting to work, that takes up to 2 years, but usually not that long for someone coming from anywhere other than mexico.
After I married my wife, it took 3 months to get her a permanent status and green card so she could work. She was already in the US on a tourist vista, it was faster than a K-1 visa.I did not use a lawyer, if I had question that I could not find on there web site, I called them for the answer.
Wow what a plan. Bring me to your country and let me sit around and collect govt. handout checks for 3 years.
He will be able to work as soon as you file all the appropriate papers and he obtains his residency cards. He can apply for a soc sec card and get a job then. No 3 year wait necessary. It may take a while for you to get him over here but once he is here, he should be able to find some sort of work quickly.
