Learning a second language is not an easy thing to do. Perhaps it is not so much that they don't care to, but rather they don't have the time or resources to do it.
They don't deserve anything if they are illegal.
They don't even 'deserve' residency. If you're going to stay in another country for a protracted length of time, you should make some effort to learn the language.

NO! I refused to even take a foreign language in school because I'm against it. I go to Mexico or Europe and they dont learn english so why should I have to learn there language when they come to the USA?
NO WAY JOSE! It is costing me jobs!! Learn to speak ENGLISH! I am tired of going to a mechanic and not able talk to the person! This is ridiculous! Living in the tip of Texas is like living in a de facto Mexico!

Why does my ATM machine ask me in Spanish how I want to conduct my banking needs? Under equal protection, shouldn't I be asked in every language? Or is it only in Spanish because they are the one ethnic group that doesn't feel the need to learn English?

i say no. if u want to be a citiizen and be a representative of that country then u should be able to speak the language. people complains a lot on how they would be treated especially the illegal immigrants, one must realize to become a citizen in one's country is not a right but a privilege.
I agree. I think the Europeans who came here should be required to learn the languages spoken by the Native Americans.
