Should i renew my greencard?

a few months ago, my greencard expired. i already passed the citizenship test, but since i was discharge from the navy bootcamp, they need to a do a background check on me. its been almost a year and i haven't heard from INS. should i renew my greencard or wait for my background check to clear. i can't leave the caountry with expired greencard.

You need to call the INS and ask them what is going on with your citizenship application, because it should not take that long. However I suggest that just in case anything happens, it is better for you to renew your green card.

why were you discharged from BOOTCAMP??
apply for the greencard in the meantime in case there's an issue with your citizenship. Otherwise you may be fighting to stay in the country if you have neither going.

Renew the GC. Your status does not end or expire (unless it is the conditional 2 year GC based on marriage to a US citizen), but the card needs to be renewed every 10 years. And ignore the people telling you to hit the road; if you got a legit GC, you are just as entitled to be here as they are.

PS--leaving usually is not the problem. Re-entry is the problem! So don't leave till you get the new card.
Make an infopass appointment to have your passport stamped. That should be good for a year. When you talk to the immigration information officer, tell them that your citizenship is delayed and have them check on it. go to www.uscis.gov. to make the infopass appointment.
Just drive to mexico. To enter it is very easy.
