Can canadian citizens living in the United States for 7 years apply for residency or a green card?

Answer:
Simply living in the US does not confer any immigration benefits, whether you are legally there or not. There are people who live and work for many years in the US on nonimmigrant visas - temporary workers, journalists, students, etc - who have no right to request residency. You can get a green card (residency) only through being petitioned for either by a qualifying family member or by an employer.
Yes, they can.
If they are here legally they can apply for citizenship after 5 years. If illigal then you take your chances. To be here you either had to be a student, or have a work visa or a current green card.
I do believe so as long as you are working and can provide proof of that. I would like to know how you got into the country and have survived for 7 years without one. Nothing personal, just curious. If you are married to a U.S. citizen, then you are eligible for a green card. If you are not not, make a random call, anonymous of course, to check this out. Otherwise, go to make yourself a U.S. Citizen by going to school so that you learn all the important stuff about U.S. History, etc. You will do alright. Keep the faith! If you are an honest, really good person, then there are no issues. Tired of the bureaucracy. Good people trying to do right and the government interferes. Nothing personal towards you, but I do think that you have a chance.

I wish you the best of luck! Just do it right and legal.
Yes. My boyfriend is Canadian and he had a work visa. Having worked here for so long, he now has permanent residency here.
