Can someone please explain to me how the stolen land theory is supposed to work?

Some Mexicans claim that part of the United States is stolen land from Mexico (mainly California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas).

I have been trying to analyze this, but I cannot find any sense in it. First I look at stealing. There is an obvious opposition to stealing here, so I look to see how the Mexican people feel about stealing in other situations. Identity theft... guilty. Stealing healthcare benefits... guilty. Stealing jobs from American citizens... guilty. Stealing money from the government by not paying income taxes... guilty. The list goes on.

Perhaps this is not so much about stealing but more about the land itself. As far as I can tell, the physical land is not really any better in the U.S. than it is in Mexico. The main difference I see is what people have done with the land.

Suppose for a minute that the land was stolen. Now let's pretend that Mexico had kept this land. Move forward to today, pretending that CA, AZ, NM, and TX have always been part of Mexico.

Answer:
It was never "stolen". In 1836 the Texans booted Santa Anas butt out of Texas. In the Mexican American war of 1846-1848 the United States kicked his butt again, and in a gesture of generosity after he was beaten signed the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and PURCHASED an area of about 550,000 square miles for 15 million dollars (Most of the southwest up into Colorado) followed by the Gadsden purchase. We didn't steal anything. We Bought it.

Edit: Their argument is that of the strawman, and when you think about it, other than calling some of us racists and presenting revisionist history, it's all they have. The first word of their legal title and status is "Illegal" It's an indefensible position. Hence the weak and baseless arguments.
It really is their land...we stole it from them, being native americans and mexicans. We stole it as a nation, using national resources. They're not stealing from us as a nation. You're being pig-headed. Most illegal immagrants would pay taxes because it would give them the right to earn minimum wage, a luxury they dont have. Stop Mexican bashing. Not all Mexicans are illegal.
Uhhhh, whhhy do you dislike Mexicans so much???
ok first off your way WRONG. if you knew your history you would know the southwest states that you refer to were given as an aggreement during the treaty that ended war between mexico. second place they're not stealin much since our health care system is screwed up and the jobs they take are jobs that your lazy *** could never do. id like to see you in the sun all day picking grapes from fresno.
this question was settled they (mexico) lost . the war in 1846- 48 was the result of they desputing the secession of Texas and the the US Annexation of it, the whole Manafest destiny thing. anyway its bought and paid for with American Blood!
Bogus argument. The borders exist, despite revisionist historians. Secondly, the interest in "reclamation" is heightened because of social services that are now in place because of legal American taxpayers' input.

It's a spurious argument, intended more to insult the listener than enlighten.
I think that the annexation of TX CA AZ and NM as part of the war with mexico was basically a United States land grab from a country that was too weak to defend itself.

This has nothing to do with Mexico's current status as a nation. Nor does it have anything to do with the current immigration debate in this country.

I have never heard anyone say that Mexican immigration into the US is some sort of payback for mid 1800's manifest destiny.
The land was not stolen. We bought it. Even if we gave it back they would just run it into the ground like the rest of their cess pool country.
The land wasn't stolen and only radical groups claim that.Mainly it's young people who put this into words. How many young white kids take up the claim that America was stolen from the Native Americans it's the same thing.Or how many kids think the Nazi movement is cool?Same thing again.Even La Raza doesn't support the Aztlan theory.I guess it's just one of those things that kids say or do that make them feel superior to us old folks or try to shock us with.I've had too many teenagers in my life to get shocked or outraged at anything they say.So if you're smart take it for what it's worth and be a step ahead of the kids who spout this stuff.
It is NOT Mexico's land.
Santa Ana lost it and then we PAID Mexico 8M US Dollars for it.
Does Russia cry and moan about Alaska having lots of oil beneath her?
Mexico, stop crying over spilled milk.
No, you don't go far enough. Spain stole it from the natives who had stolen it from eachother then we stole and bought it from them.

and yes, we built what makes what is north of the Rio Grande different from what is south of the Rio Grande and we fund the services here, so it is all moot, in any event.
the answer is, that it is believed that santa ana was being a benedict arnold and that everything from land to the loss of the mexican american war was planned way before it happenned. For all you white people thats the answer. By the way, Mexican are taking over. Has anybody heard that akon song were he sing "we're taking over, one street at a time", that song, i swear we be singing that song in the hood and in white peoples faces. hahaha.
I suggested a good hystory book you going to have a goda idea, but it wasnt stolen its won in a war. But the England stole indian land.
