My son wants duel citizenship in the EU (england). Is it possible where my mother was born and raised in engla

if so how do we do this...and will he then have to wait a long time before being able to live there or even visit?

Answer:
I don't know how old your son is, but he could apply for the ancestry visa because of his grandmother.

Here is a link that explains who is able to apply and what to do.

UK allows dual citizenship, but whether the country he is a citizen now allows it is a different matter.

Regarding visiting the UK, depending on what country he is from, he can visit the UK on a waiver for upto 6 months without a visa.
This is of course depending on which country he is from and the usual immigration rules, ie no criminal records etc

Note..

I like to make a note, as someone mentioned here...A UK citizen does not give up their citizenship to become a US citizen. Only the UK can make you give it up.
The UK accepts dual citizenship

Come on in - everybody welcome, live off us, piss on us, we just love it !!!
You can't be a citizen of England......only of the United Kingdom.
In my case my father was from Spain and when I born , he still with the citizen ship. I go to Spanish embassy to fill all the riquerement. You should try England Embassy for more details, I know is from father to sons the right, but I dont know if include grandson. Know I have dual American and European Passport.
if he is a us citizen he cannot get dual.i am from england and am a permanent resident alien. i am going to become an american citizen and will have to give up my british one. england will always recognize me as british but the usa makes you choose.,if he wanted to become british he could because of his grandmother. as far as travelling there he can go now on his american passport.
"Duel citizenship?" You mean, the right to engage in a duel with someone who is a citizen? Or are you referring to "dual citizenship", which is the character of legally claiming to be a citizen of two or more countries?
The US does not make you choose, you can hold dual citizenship as an American citizen. If he is already an American citizen, then he may have to establish a residence in the UK to gain citizenship there.

Whoever says you can't is wrong.
I was married to a Dutch man, and years later my children went to live in the Netherlands they are entitled to duel citizenship(i am british)They just went to the British embassy in Holland and they advised them but i am not sure what you do if you are American ????Maybe American Embassy. GOOD LUCK!
If your mother was born in England Then you can get right to abode in the united king dome as you are half British!I believe you first need to be naturalised for that you will need a full birth certificate that shows where your mother was born and possibly her's then you can get a lawyer to sort the papper work or look on the Internet!once you do that you can apply for right to abode if you look on www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk it may help you with what you are looking for.
yes
I don't think it would be possible. Dual-citizenship is usually automatic from birth - for somebody whose parents keep different citizenship's from each other.

I don't know if an American citizen with two American parents is able to apply for naturalization in another country without first being aware that they may have to give the American one up. It may be possible, but I'm not entirely sure. You can read more about it here: http://www.britainusa.com/sections/artic... here: http://www.richw.org/dualcit/faq.html... and here: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw... :-)
It depends when he was born and if he lives in the UK (not England, this is so ignorant) or not. It's a very complex issue, there are no easy answers.
Probably no, I have to say.
The short simple answer is he can get a four year visa for the UK. (ancestory visa). He can not get an EU passport. If he come to england for the four years of his vias, he can then apply for naturalisation, after another year he can then apply for his UK (EU) passport.

So he can get an EU passport if he is prepared to spend a few years in the UK first.
