Why is there so much concern about the cost of illegal immigrants to the economy when these are the figures?
The cost of the Iraq War in 2006 was over $300 billion.

The 10 year cost of the Bush Tax Cuts is $1.6 TRILLION.

Answer:
Arguments you will receive and rebuttals:
Keep our tax dollars at home to pay for schools for our children.Fact and rebuttal:President Bush grossly under-estimated the cost of war with Iraq.To pay for this he took money from programs such as Public Education in elementary and secondary school. He also cut grants for post secondary education. It has nothing to do with illegal immigration. If it did why wasn't America in such bad shape financially 7 years ago.The illegal immigrants didn't arrive yesterday.
It's about time Americans received a tax break.Fact and rebuttal:Unless you make over $100,000.00 per year the tax breaks didn't apply for you.Bush's tax breaks were for high income and large business.Small business owners and middle and lower income people will get the shaft.
This whole issue is to keep Americans occupied with illegal immigration while our countries coffers are being robbed. Not to mention the heat the administration is taking on Iraq.If anyone truly thought about this they would realize and pay attention to the many other things that are going on right now in the political arena that is FAR more damaging to America than the illegal immigration problem that has in all actuality slowed down.Wake up and smell the coffee people you're being sold to the highest bidder and it's not Mexico.
GREETINGS<all figures are just awful and BS as far as I'm concerned. Charity begins at home and you need to shut the doors and fix your own problems before you fix others.
And yeah, immigration costs are not as bad as the other but it just adds to the mess and debt we already have which will never be paid off with money we don't have and never will.
It is impossible to put a true number on the cost of illegal immigration since there is no reporting center that tracks such information. The costs to local, state and federal governments is huge in terms of enforcement and benefits which are obtained illegally. But that is a problem with legal citizens as well. It is not prudent to justify one expense with others. The Bush tax cut has added trillions to the economy in terms of economic growth and increased employment, so that cost is more an investment.
Hmmmmmm,
Lets see, cost of illegals coming here, working and helping our economy, uses social services, education, etc. at a cost of 11-22 billion a year vs. a war that is costing us $300 million, which is killing our soldiers, destroying our credibility throughout the world, horribly mismanaged, attacking a country on a false premise? ITS A NO BRAIN-ER, I will take the illegals any day of the week, rather than having this ridiculous war...!
And look where its got us, our gas prices are higher than ever!!
Also, this report doesn't give what these immigrants actually contribute to the economy in terms of lower wages and productivity, how much more we would have to pay for goods and services from the agricultural, manufacturing and service sectors, if we had citizens performing these jobs vs. these illegal workers...
We need to secure our borders and deport all the illegal aliens who are ruining this country.
You are comparing apples to Democrats. The Bush Tax cuts saved 1.6 TRILLION dollars. Sheesh, since when was Bush the legislative branch? Why does his name get tacked onto the tax cut? And what does this have to do with the Congress funding the war? And why don't you hold any loyalty to this country? I love immigrants, but uncontrolled immigration is gonna tear the sovereignty of our nation apart. The cost of illegals is trivial to the national identity question. If they all move up here, won't we become more like what they ran from? Be careful of what you ask for.
The problem is not the cost, but the fact they are BREAKING THE LAW. And the tax cuts saved WHO 1.6 trillion? The oil companies? Tax cuts cost the government money. They don't collect the taxes? Radical conservatives, use your brain, not your obsession to disagree with everything.
That's only one estimate, and possibly the lowest one any reputable think tank will make. Most agree that the figures are much higher:
California alone: ($10.5 billion)
"Analysis of the latest Census data indicates that California's illegal immigrant population is costing the state's taxpayers more than $10.5 billion per year for education, medical care and incarceration."
http://www.fairus.org
In 1996 alone, illegal immigration cost the state and federal governments around 33 billion. It's been 11 years, and tack on ever more of those illegals each year, and that figure is at MINIMUM half a trillion. Again, that's using the average minimum figures from several think tanks, not just one.
That's why the concern is great.
Sources: http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/immigratio...
http://www.fairus.org
http://www.cis.org
http://www.usillegalaliens.org

And those sources are on just the first page of the Yahoo search results.
Listing a net figure from one source is just bad statistics. Be careful with your numbers, and run an average from several sources. Then if you want to compare it to Bush's tax cuts over ten years, do the cumulative average for the same time period for illegal immigration. It's a far larger problem than one estimate for one year shows.
because your figures show a less cost, I should not be concerned about it? anytime a family decides to cut back on their budget, they eliminate the lesser expenses. they don't stop paying the mortage, or utilities, or car payments and insurance...they buy hamburger instead of filet mignon, you still need to eat. they don't have cable t.v., they shop at K-Mart, Wal-Mart for their supplies, while I don't agree with this war that our president has put upon us, I am supportive of the men and women who have dedicated their lives for our country. In my opinion, the illegal immigrants are the parasite that sucks the life blood out of this country. you cannot compare the war to the influx of criminals who crash our borders and suck us dry via welfare. you should probably take a second job and be away from your family more to help support the illegals so they can maintain a decent lifestyle. please put it all in perspective.
Hey Angela, I know your type. One who throws out comparisons on two totally different situations that have no relation to one another in an effort to distract and try to prove your point. Americans are much too smart for such feable attempts. Nice try though.
You ask how much we would have to pay for goods and services if illeals were not doing the jobs. My guess would be an affordable rate. One only has to look back in history at a time period prior to the flooding of illegal immigrants. During this period of time Americans held these jobs and we all seemed to be able to afford those goods and services just as well as we do today. Again a feable attempt and again nice try.
How can tax cuts "cost" money when tax receipts have increased significantly since their passage, Einstein?
I love those one dimensional arithmetic thinking types. Simple-minded and uninformed does not begin to describe Dems/Libbies.
Defense spending is the cost of doing business in this world. Get used to it.
Yeah, did that article add the millions that are lost because of illegal aliens not paying taxes or how about how they end up sending their kids to school for FREE?
If this amnesty is granted, this is the straw that broke the camels back
well, this report is the cost of illegal immigration now. The huge huge huge cost would be supporting all of the 12 million or so people who would be here legally. I agree the war is a waste of time and money.. But the tax cuts are going to cost money?? do you not know how tax cuts work?? First, they allow for more people to be hired to work. Second, they allow us to have more money to spend, save, and be able to support ourselves without government assistance. And even if the taxes don't come out of our check, we still buy items which are taxed... and that money is used. I never understand how tax cost cost us!! They allow us to have more money and use it instead of the government wasting it away for us and then we don't have a thing to say about it.
but the immigration numbers seem low to me. When you add the costs of the prisons being overcrowded, crime rates increasing, all of our social programs are out of control, our schools are all in shambles, and the illegals who work here illegally first are not paying taxes, but then are taking the job of someone who would. So i would say that figure of 11-12 billion a year is too low if all of the costs are added in
First how can tax cuts cost us money? Second, if I steal $10 dollars from you and someone steals a hundred, you would still be upset with me. To balance our budget, every dollar counts. Even your right about the war, doesn't mean we should ignore other problems. Peoples main concern is still the war no mattter what happens. If someone steals a thousand dollars, It isn't right that others are stealing hundreds while everyone is distrated by the bigger theft.
I generally don't consider anything that comes from www.cis.org as 100% valid since they mostly publish their "findings" in their own journal. However, if your numbers are correct the burden of immigration is a drop in the bucket of gov't spending and probably state spending as well. And it also mentions that this deficit is due to immigrants being "disproportionately low-skilled and thus earn low wages".
So, what happens if we grant amnesty and give better job options to immigrants? Will the $11-22 billion drop way down? Maybe.
Estimated costs of benefits for amnesty recipients in health and retirements alone...over 2 trillion dollars. That figure based on the estimate of 12,000,000 illegal aliens.
Not only will we bear these costs, so will our children and grandchildren.
due to your hate towards illegal immagration, I like you alot...
