What is the effect of illegal immigration on the middle class, the majority seem to agree that?

The laborer is being affected by the influx of cheaper labor. Do you think the middle class is negatively affected by illegal immigration, why do you believe this to be true. For example are we paying higher taxes to subsidize social services for either the illegal immigrant or our workers who are loosing their jobs, what other reasons (if any).

Again lets try to respect each others right to an opinion and be polite.

Thanks

It will eliminate those middle income jobs that have not already been lost by transferring most to Asian countries and Mexico. Fortunately, following Venezuela's lead the major countries of South America are not buying into the proposed "Free trade Agreement for the Americas". It's ironic, that illegal immigrants get better health care in the US, than the 45 million working poor who receive none. The labour class which for the best part is the middle class are the nation's main tax base. The poor do not pay taxes and the very rich know how to hide their money, off shore etc. The Chinese and Arabs are buying up your real estate and shares in stock and will soon, if not already, will have unprecedented control of your country. The income from Iraqi oil was supposed to offset the cost of that war. This isn't happening, so the US tax payer is footing that bill. Sorry, I'm off subject. It's only the wealthy that can benefit from the illegals, not the nation. Example "Walmart", leads the way. They employ cheap labour, very little if any taxes are being paid, the stock value skyrockets and the rich get richer and the shrinking middle class will have to pick up the tab with long term increased taxes. Are you aware that Haliburton, the chief exploiting carpet bagging scum outfit has relocated to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates primarily to avoid US taxes. Sorry to be so negative but we are headed for some very hard times ahead. Sadly what happens in your country spills over into ours (Canada) very quickly. Good luck and God bless.
Yes. The only thing middle class citizens have to show for illegal immigration is higher taxes and lower wages.
Illegals are taking away jobs and tax money from legals. We're going to end up paying their social security.
The Power Brokers who are behind The North American Union...and other "Positive" ideas for the US simply want a Super-Rich Elite Class and a Dirt-Poor Slave Class. Thus eliminating the income disposal "rich" Middle Class.
Who employs the latino cleaner, maid nanny etc at poverty wages in order not to damage their lily white hands ,the middle and upper classes not the poor .Stop immigration and America has no cheap servants ,road diggers ,fruit pickers etc which a lot of americans think it is beneath their dignity .Unionise the low paid that will stop immigration.
Joseph's answer is supported by the facts.

The negative effects are pretty much limited to the local tax increases to pay for services.

Middle class means households earning between 2X and 5X the poverty level, and the exodus from this group has been almost entirely upward. Sorry, the Census Bureau numbers clearly show that, that's not up for debate. The middle class is smaller, the upper class is larger, the lower class is the same size in proportion to the whole, but the native-born lower class is smaller - the lower class is maintaining its size in proportion to the whole because we keep importing poor people.

The middle class are people with white collar and high-skill blue collar jobs - - Mexicans with no skills and minimal English-speaking ability aren't taking those jobs. If anything, the social shift is that both husband and wife are working those jobs and paying the illegals under the table to mow the lawn, clean the house and watch the kids.

There are SOME native people stuck competing for this work with under-the-table illegals but is there any excuse for someone born here and given 12 years of free education and inexpensive community college education to be in this position? Should you be in your 40s, white, a citizen, and working at Dunkin' Donuts? And don't say "those are the only jobs being created" because again that's just not the case.
well illegal immigeration effects the economy of the country.the illegal immigrants might br cminals also running from their own country to escape punishment.on the other hand some how or the other in the long run they manage to get protection from there country of immergration,as somebody may sponsor them after number of years.in the long run they claim medical benafits and pension benafits too after retirement
Since the middle class' finances are so tight, there's also a benefit to have the illegals around...
Who else will do the cheap labor? lawn services, general grunt construction work, crop picking, etc.
first, our taxes our higher, even if the taxes aren't raised to higher dollar amounts, we pay more for what we get, since so much of our tax money goes to social services, there is less for things that would actually benefit the middle class like road improvements and parks.

Second, yes the middle class is being severely crippled by the influx of cheap labor. Example: it is almost impossible to compete in the construction business these days without cheap immigrant labor. these are jobs that American Citizens want, but they can no longer support their families by doing them.

I believe that as more and more Legal Citizens see their livelihood being taken away by cheap labor from illegal immigrants there will be more and more public outcry for the government to start cracking down.

I know that we can't full y secure our borders, we can't punish every business that hires illegal aliens, we can't prevent forged documents, and we can't deport all 20 million illegals, but I would rather see our government try to enforce its laws and have some people get away with it than see them give up entirely, they may not eliminate the problem but we can make progress if we would just get started.
illegal immigrants work their way up and take the jobs away from middle class people. Not only that, but they can come into this country and work without paying taxes, then gain citizenship close to a "Retirement" age and draw off social security. I think U.S. Government benefits ought to only extend to people who were either born into this country, or came before the age of 18. They ought to have to pay into it if they are going to be taking out of it.
The blue collar middle class is definitely being effected. Look at construction sites. My husbands sees many jobs sites on his job and they are full of immigrants. Those jobs are taken by bid. Let's say the company that employees the skilled American citizens bids they can do the job for $300,000 and there employees make $20 an hour. The company that employees illegals says they can do the job for $200,000 and pays it's workers $8 an hour. The lower bidding company gets the job because they can afford to do it for so much less by paying the illegal who won't fight for more money. Now where does that leave the skilled American worker? I know first hand, my husband is schooled in construction but drives a truck because his company decided they wanted to pay him $10 an hour to compete with the companies that paid much less to there Mexican workers. I'm sorry but with 4 children, you just can't afford to sit and do nothing because your job got bidded out and you can't afford to live on $10 an hour, even with both of us working. We would have to get assistance and of course we wouldn't qualify for that either. As of right now the immigrants are not affecting our jobs, anymore that is, but there are still people out there that would be happy to work at McDonald's but because they can pay an immigrant less to work there, they won't pay a citizen enough to stay in that job.
It obviously benefits the wealthy! Look at Walmart, Tyson, and the Swift Co.These corporations line their pockets and I believe they really don't pass the savings to the American public. But I think it effects the poor in this country far greater than the middle class..I consider myself middle class, and since I don't compete with illegals with my line of work, it doesn't directly affect me...But the poor trying to find a job with low skills, it does hurt them.As far as taxes, I have always paid a lot of taxes, this govt. will find ANY excuse to raise them. But this is a price you pay by living in a first world country.Europeans pay MUCH higher taxes than we do in America.
All of us are affected by illegal immigration due to the fact that they are such a burden on the educational system, the health care system, and social services. They receive much more from our economy than they contribute. They also drain dollars out of the economy and send them back to Mexico. They are also a drag on the economy because of the high rate of crimes committed by the totally undesirable elements of that group. We are becoming a penal colony for Mexico. They are heavily involved in drug traffic and human traffic. Our failure to enforce our borders puts the illegal immigrants at risk and subjects them to unscrupulus people that take advantage of them.
The middle class, what's left of it, is getting screwed! We pay higher taxes for the illegals. Citizens loose their jobs. Kids aren't properly taught in schools and our ERs are closing down due to lack of funds.

The illegals get freebies and the taxpayers pay for them.
Communism 101 - eliminate the middle class, eradicate religion, control the media, spread out the military, eliminate private property rights. Uncontrolled mass immigration is a globalist tool.
