Can I apply for citizenship before the mandated 5 years? USA?

I want to apply for citizenship before the rates go up by the end of July, but I won't have the 5 years minimum required until March 2008. Can I still apply? From my understanding, I won't be called to an interview for 9 months after I apply...

Answer:
No, you can't apply.
It depends how you receive your green card. If you came here with k-1, or cr-1 or IR1 visa, the minimum requirement is three years. Others are 5 years.

Don't take the chances, one of my friends applied early (only about one month earlier) and got denied at the interview because he didn't wait. There is no refund. He had to file and pay again.
