I am working on a project for a Critical Thinking class. What are the opinions of Americans on terrorism?
Answer:
Terrorism is way overrated.
Random attacks will and can happen in any country. Terrorism will NEVER go away, no matter what.
There will always be bands of outcasts or anarchists who want to fight against the Govt or system. They can come from other countries, as is the case with Muslim Terrorism, or they can come from within the country, as was the case with Tim McVeigh in Oklahoma.
If someone is determined to blow something up and willing to die for it himself, he can do it. No military can stop him unless we turn this country into a Military Dictatorship where there are checkpoints on every corner and everyone is constantly searched.
9/11 happened because nobody expected it. Even the passengers on the airplanes didn't expect that the hijackers would crash the plane into a building. They probably thought that they would demand something and land somewhere and negotiate with the police.
But I'm pretty sure now, that people know, they would not just sit in the airplane and let a few goons with box cutters fly them into their own deaths. They'd probably kick their asses.
But many Americans are too stupid to realize that terrorism can never be completely eradicated, so they let the Govt use terrorism as an excuse to slowly take away their rights. Of course, the Govt is more than willing to do so. The more power the Govt can have without the people complaining, the better for them.

Kamikazes were part of a national military that was defeated. Terrorism can come from anywhere. You have the IRA in the UK, you have the Basques in Spain, you have Muslim Fundamentalists, you have anarchists, you have Chechnyans in the former USSR. You'd have to "eradicate" 20% of all human free thinking. Impossible.
The Kamikaze could very well come back if Japan gets into another full scale war.
BTW, the Germans also had suicide fighters and even the Confederates in the Civil war had people who sacrificed their lives for the cause, as was the case with the two-manned submarine that tried to ram a Union ship in the blockade.
Terrorism is in the eyes of the beholder. I would say many in Iraq feel "terrorized" by the US military.
When the US supported the military overthrow of the democratically elected Alllende in Chile, it was felt to be "terror" (and resulted in thousands of priests, nuns, journalists, professors, citiziens being rounded up and murdered).
What is "shock and awe" if not terror?
I believe the ideology that gives rise to it should be wiped out, as was done with the Kamikaze.
The idea of the US as a terrorist nation is ridiculous on its face. the teacher giving out such an assignment should be fired.
Terrorism is a tool used by governments to control their citizens.

Patriot Acts
"Grand Bargain" almost passed Senate.
North American Union....
I am an American and I believe that my country is performing a terrorist act on the middle east right now. I learned about the youth of Iran and how they are really interested in democracy and they are tired of their current government but they are terrified that any day America is going to start bombing and from some of what the politicians say I don't blame them for being scared.
Any time violence is used to change a way of thinking it is terrorism.
Peace
America is behind all the problems in the middle East by its blind support of Israel (a terrorist nation) , its 3 billion dollar a year military aid to Israel. America is the greatest arms supplier in the world And its covert attempts to overthrow democratically elected Governments, If their crony (S) were not elected
