How does a hard working American move to the Uk to become a hardworking Brit?

I'm interested in moving to England, and given the fact that the USA is basically Englands child (we just wanted our independence like children do when they get old enough but it doesn't mean we still don't love our parents- in most cases anyway) you'd think that the process would be easier. I currently work for a company (USAA) that also has an office in London. The starting salary is reasonable, my boyfriend who resides in London (uk citizen) & I plan to live together thus helping the cost of living, however before the USAA office there will even look at my application I need a working visa good for at least 2yrs. I have looked at all the options, but so far short of getting married or becoming rich it seems nearly impossible to be able to come to this lovely country and be with the man I love very much. I am a hard worker, don't believe in living off the government, & a good person to boot so why do they make it so hard for someone like me to live/work there? It's disheartening. :(

Answer:
I have lived in the UK several times and have loved it very much. There are 3 ways I can think of that can get you over there to work. One, get married as you said. Two, If you apply for jobs there, some companies will petition a work visa for you. If you have a degree in a fields in higher demand (like social work, computers, medicine, nursing etc) it will be easier. Three, if you have recently taken some college classes check out BUNAC.com or search it online. You might be able to get a short term Visa with them even if you have to go back to take some classes for a semester. Short term to stay with your boyfriend might be enough to see if you will ever get married. It depends on how much you desire to go. They also have a visa to live in New Zealand for a year. British Citizens can live and work there so maybe if you both move there you can see if you like each other enough to eventually marry and move to the UK. Hope this helps.
Talk to the Embassy and find out which visa would be best for you.
