Green card? help!?
Answer:
Each US state has it's own requirements for teachers qualifications. You may find a school who can employ you and that is willing to process a working visa application for you.
The other way of course has been mentioned, marry an American. I did that and the paperwork is not difficult at all. Anyone with a reading age of 12 can do it without needing a lawyer. I wouldn't recommend the marriage route though, unless you do love your American and want to spend your life with that person. The American government does not look kindly on people who misuse the family based immigration system to just get into the country.
If you are Irish and Hold an EU Passport then it wouldn"t be a big deal for you...Simply go to
http://dublin.usembassy.gov/
Or If I was you and I had time , I would go there my self and inquire .
Very Best Of Luck for That..
It might be best to apply for a job first. As a teacher you would probably get sponsored to come here to work. This would greatly simplify the immigration maze for you. Or you could marry a US citizen!! Good luck. I just went through it all and I would strongly recommend using a US lawyer specialising in immigration to assist you. It's not really possible to do it alone as it's so complex. The lawyer would walk you through the various steps.
You need to get a sponsor.
America is crying out for quality teachers right now. Your best hope would be to get sponsored by an employer. That restricts you to working for that employer, but you can adjust your status once you are here so that you can work for anyone.
The marriage route only works if you are in love with someone. The immigration officers are well-trained to spot marriages of convenience and, as previously noted, do not take kindly to breaches of this law.
A study visa probably isn't an option as you most likely have all the qualifications you need right now. As you appear to be in employment, the special rules for temporary visas for NI residents under the Good Friday Agreement do not apply to you.
Finally, are you absolutely sure you want to work in schools over here? The jobs are most likely going to be in the inner-city schools - the ones with metal detectors and security guards - rather than in a nice rural area.
