Challenging question?

We all have our view points and opinions on the whole immigration issue, and the different aspects of it - legal, illegal, etc. However, I want to know if anyone, REGARDLESS of personal opinion, can point out 1 good and 1 bad thing in the latest bill? I'm challenging everyone to look outside of thier own gut emotions, and take an objective look at it.

Answer:
Good thing - make learning English mandatory.

Bad thing - Still doesn't address the real problems of the border and how to keep illegals from entering to begin with. Till it is addressed, the problems will keep coming thru our borders.

"I'm all in favor of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Let's start with typewriters."

Frank Lloyd Wright (1868-1959)
The whole problem is its a very emotional issue and nobody is going to be able to come up with a perfect solution because of it.
I'm sorry, I no longer give opinions on this subject. I haven't even looked at or seen the new bill.
Good thing -- Guest worker visas.
Bad thing -- splits families
good---we might have enough services to support American indigent families.

More will come.
1. Good = Tougher penalties against employers who hire illegals IF THEY ENFORCE IT.

2. Bad = As close to amnesty as you can get for 2.5 Trillion of taxpayers money.
One bad thing in this bill is that it set up a database for aliens to register for jobs that businesses can access to find employees. We don't even have that for our own American citizens now and these are the people who will be losing jobs to the aliens. Source: The Savage Nation.
I can point out a few good things.

I think it has its ups and downs...first sure let them be here..but lets check out criminal records(yes i know crossing is ILLEGAL but thats not the question) since they been here. If they are true criminals they arent allowed to stay.

$5000 is fine...but also make them pay at least back some of the taxes if they havent been doing so in the previous years with an ITIN.

Also, ok so they have to go back to country of orgin and wait and then re enter to apply for citizenship.great..but lets make sure they are able to come back. No imposing years of waiting. 6 months, sure I am for it. 2 or more years I dont think so.

They will just sneak back in.
bad thing separate families, cause another war

good thing for the people that are here legalization so everyone could stop stereotyping them

not all will become legal some have criminal backgrounds and they will not be allowed to be legal
Nothing good about the Bill. They should be spending this time working on how to deport all illegals. They should be spending their time doing THIS Countrys business, not Mexicos.

It's finally come to this: our elected representatives are working ferventing against us. Our citizens will be penalized in every way for a idiotic, self-serving government.

Prepare to have your life changed drastically!
I disfavor the bill, strongly, but I think the idea of changing the system from "family reunification" to taking in people who have SKILLS WE NEED is a good one.

If people miss their relatives, they can go back to their home country.

I fear, though, that by the time these provisions are scheduled to kick in (almost ten years from now,) , they will be repealed or ignored. The "enforcement" side of "immigration reform" always is.

PS For many people, finding one good thing and one bad thing about the bill is NOT consistent with taking an objective look at it. That depends on the contents of the bill, not the temperament of the poster.
I'm sure you think this is a challenging question, but it's not. The point of this bill is to grant amnesty to the invading illegals. Whether *any* other aspect of the bill can be considered good is irrelevant, because amnesty is unacceptable, the bill is unacceptable.

There's also the problem of the sheer complexity of what's being proposed. It's a bureaucratic abomination. Remember how well FEMA handled the aftermath of Katrina? That's exactly how well this bill will handle the aftermath of the Mexican invasion. Trying to pick good and bad parts out of such a mess is a waste of time.

Furthermore, the content of the bill is not the only problem. There's also the fact that certain senators want to push this bill through without proper debate or consideration, that the president is holding our security hostage to protect corporate profits, and that representatives of the criminals are being listened to more than law-abiding citizens on the matter.

I challenge you to look beyond your simplistic version of objectivity and look at the big picture.

Well, the most obvious wrong is the fact that the bill instantly gives visas to the people who have been here illegally since before Jan 1 of this year. This giving of amnesty is said to be the solution because "you can't deport 12 million people."

One of the areas where the bill gets it right is with more emphasis being placed on bringing in more legal immigrants who are "highly skilled." This is important because not only does it bring in more people who can actually add a lot to society, but who will pay alot more in taxes than a laborer, maid, lettuce-picker, or janitor would.

There are several other things that are both wrong and right about this bill, but you only asked for one of each.
The one thing good about it...it won't work.

The one bad thing about it...it won't work.

I read through the entire bill.

There is no way this can work.
Illegals are already complaining about having to pay the $5,000.00. They won't leave and go back to their home countries. In order for this bill to work, one has to assume that the illegals will step right up and register and go through the process. The same illegals that didn't follow the process to begin with.

Edit: Please go to the following link, I think you'll find it to be an eye opener:
Good thing. The government finally wants to do something about illegals in this country.

Bad thing. They are not deporting them and sending them to the "back of the line" behind legal immigrants.
