British Passport?

I have a grandfather living in the UK, my father who had a British ID is dead, was an illegal immagrant in South Africa. I cannot get access to his unabridged Birth Certificate

So how do I go about getting a British Passport.it's the least that bstard could do for me..let me look for my grandfather.who was the sunshine in my life until I was 14.I haven't seen or heard from him since 1996 (my father's funeral)...

I have an Aunt (my father's sister) who stays in the UK with her husband too...unfortunately I don't know what her married name is.

What can I do to get access into the country.I just want to visit and see and maybe get in touch with my aunt at least, I don't even know if my grandfather is still alive...Even if it is an Ancestral Visa.

Somebody.anybody.but only if you have relevant advice.I don't give a hoot about sarcastic remarks or critisism.but I guess some people have to score 2 points without making a decent effort...whatever

Answer:
You can obtain a copy of your Father's birth certificate as well as your grandfather's from Somerset House (St. Catherine's House) in London where all births, nmarriages and deaths have been registered since the 1790s. As long as both your father and Gandfather were born in the UK and you can show this, then you are entitled to a British citizenship with all the rights implied. You need to obtain these birth certificates and only need to apply at the British High Commission in South Africa to obtain your British Passport. As for finding your aunt and/or grnadfather try Genesreunited.co.uk a new websites in the UK.
It sounds like you may qualify for a British passport based on your father and grandfather's citizenship. The difficulty is proving it. Presumably your own birth certificate is in order, i.e. showing your father's name, etc., because it's crucial to show that your father was a Brit. It would help if you had his birth cert (short version??) as well. What I would do in your shoes is to get as much details as possible and contact the British consulate to help trace your father's birth details in the UK. The records are well preserved and extensive there, and they should find your father's details there. You could even try yourself @ http://www.bmd-certificates.co.uk/gov/in...
Failing that, you can contact a firm of solicitors in the UK to apply for a birth cert to be issued to you. While you are doing that, you could ask them to check if your grandfather is still alive - register of deaths. If they could also get a duplicate birth cert of him it would help your application, as it would show that you come from a line of Brits. Best of luck.
Don't give up. Try this: http://www.peoplefinders.co.uk/... They may succeed, but it may cost some money.
Why can't you get access to your father's birth certificate? All my friends with British links say that it takes 2 weeks especially if you pay via the web (which part are you stuck at). Look up his details on your birth certificate and it should state where exactly he was born (Country and Suburb and give you an approximation of his age when you were born) and then go to their website http://www.bmd-certificates.co.uk/... and pay the fee.

Talk to your mum as well. She may know a few details to help you out (addresses, names, definately dad's dob and possibly where he was born etc).

In order to get a British passport you'd need to prove a link to Britian. This is usually done through the father. The usual documentation needed consists of original copies of:

your birth certificate
your father's birth certificate
parents marriage certificate
father's expired or current british passport
father's naturalization or citizenship papers.
your grandfather's birth certificate (if going for an ancestral visa).

I would say if you're trying to get a british passport/ancestry visa through your father's side and can't get his birth certificate you might as well forget it and go a normal visa.

Edited to add:
The British High Commision probably can't find it because they don't know where to look (and as a result they haven't bothered).

Just go to the UK on your usual passport or your normal tourist visa (if you require one) and initiate your own search.

Also, you can try a few different websites that link up with British people and state who you're looking for. Don't give up completely!
Never give up. Dont be silly. I'm sorry i cant help The high commission sounds a good option. There must be somebody you can speak to or a website with phone numbers just keep calling and searcing. Surely you can go on holiday and see these family members
You've got some good answers. Just to add that, if you are under thirty, you could come for two years on a Working Holidaymaker Visa. You would be allowed to work with no restriction for up to a year. But note you must have the intention to leave at the end of the two years - you would get yourself in difficulties if you tried to apply for ancestry while you were here on a WHM visa.

Good luck
stay where you are you're not welcome here
